Looking gooooood. What colour is the top going to be?
-
I like the combination of the dark neck with the blonde body.

I have an issue with the neck pocket. Hopefully tonight I'll get some pictures up that will help with my question. basically the sucker is too big...the pocket that is. and I need input on how to deal with it.
This is just an idea, filling in the gap with a catalyst setting finish, I have never tried it, but perhaps if you put a thin layer of vaseline on the neck where it meets the pocket to stop resin sticking to it, then screw it to the body. Put tape along the side of the body on both sides of the neck to stop resin running out the sides. Then mix up some resin and inject it using a syringe from the top on either side of the neck. Once it sets remove the tape and if the theory works in practice it should be a perfect fit. Obviously a test run would be the go before trying it out on that guitar which is shaping up beautifully. The veneer shim would work as well, I do not know which fix will look the best, good luck with it.

Back on dry land and access to broadband. Loved, the slideshow of the clip, and the guitar, laminations look fantastic and the top on the body wings really shimmers, great stuff.

G'Day Doug, If you get a chance post a few pictures of your guitars, I would like to see them, I am on an oil rig off Barrow Island, North West Shelf (of Australia) at the moment and the internet is coming via a satellite and Youtube is all a bit too much for it to handle. Cheers.
Hey Muzz, you got me with the Sat Connection, that's how I connect to the net too, 1024 / 256...I'm pretty remote, the Daintree. I wouldn't have it any other way though.....I'll get some images up once I get back on my main machine, it's down at the moment, should be back on line after the weekend. BTW, I've got a mate on Cockatoo Island digging out iron ore, that must be up in the same sort of area.
Yes Cockatoo Island is relatively not that far away, man it is hot out here you can drink gallons all day and you still never need to go to the dunny . After seeing Dean's post I will look forwrd to seeing your guitars in a couple of days when I get back.

Just had an idea about how to widen a neck that is slightly too thin without using major surgery, I'll throw it out there to get thoughts on whether it is feasable.
Glue strips of binding to the fingerboard so they are sticking out from the rest of the neck. Use two pack to flare the neck out to meet the binding. Sand smoth, crisis over.

Hey killemall8, what is the width of the neck now?
Is the norm 1 11/16 at the top and 2 1/4 at the bottom?
Great idea from Setch on how to thicken the neck if it really is too thin, although I guess there would need to be some carefull and time consuming deconstruction before the fix. Alternatively, would it be possible to just cut off the neck, route a neck pocket, buy a premade bolt on neck and screw it in?
After some of the 'don't WOD it send it to me' posts it will be interesting to see if someone steps up and takes on your project. I am too busy to adopt it but your guitar looks cool so I hope someone takes it to the finish line.

Here we are.
That's coming on well Zeb, I'll look forward to seeing how you go with it.

does anyone have any general jamming backing tracks?
I recorded one this morning on my laptop using Cakewalk Guitar Tracks,
It's in F# but if your guitar is tuned down a step, pretend you are playing in G.

yeah, he is really great, but only recognized on youtube. as much as i hate yngwie, i like this song, and he playes it better than yngwie himself!
Yep, he has great technique, very fluid and precise, I think he now has some decisions to make, does he focus tightly on that style or broaden his approach with a band?
Whenever I see pictures or footage of Yngwie I think of that Seinfield epidode with the puffy shirt

since sweeping was brought up, check out this one!
Finally A vid of a player with skill, speed and entertainment value.

If he stopped blowing the bands wages by burning guitars they could afford a whole pair of pants for the singer.
-
Yep, the same histrionic drum beat on every song sounds like they are using a drum machine that has jammed on a fill pattern I wonder what they would be like with a drummer that had a sense of dynamics because the guitar work is OK.

What are you guys talking about?
Dragonforce are great, I have just listened to them on the 'tube'. The lead singer gets up higher than Justin from The Darkness. Don't hate them because they are small and hairy. Click here and you will know what I am talking about

I saw the original video this post refers to by doing a backtrace of 'RE''s from this video that I originally found.
Watched the video, did you see the dude's grim look of determination as he played trills on slow melodic progressions. To get back in the zone I listened to 'A Tout Le Monde' by Megadeth with Christina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil, Click here
the solos in 'that song definitely pass the taste test, nice crisp driving tone on the guitars too.

I hear you, here is some mozzarella cheese that I cooked up.

What's up with the dork in the hat?Is nobody real anymore,or is it all just an act for money?
I am guessing that back when the young Slash was Saul, he listened to one of the all time classic albums and looked at the cover.
In a blinding flash of epiphany his whole life had meaning and direction, the dirty boogie riffs, the look, the 'tude. The picture of the dude in the rebel topper was tattooed into his brain.
Perhaps when he was younger, Master Bates, oops, I mean Master Gates had the same experience with a trilby

Photoshop, the gentle way to burn guitars and avoid roasting the walnuts.

In one of the episodes of the Simpsons Homer says to Marge, Shall we go fast or slow? Marge says, slow......then fast......then slow.........and then fast again.
I think the same goes for solos, and it's good to have more than one trick. "The World's Fastest Guitarist" could get some ideas by listening to the Reverend

I did something on the weekend that I have never done before
I rescued an old cassette recording of a jam session with Nero Wave Editor, it has the best tape hiss remover I have heard. I then used the Stereo Processor to simulate stereo and pushed the 300, 5000 and 10000 frequencies. I added some Alesis drum machine in and went over the guitar with a 77 Ibanez Les Paul copy.
If you are interested have a listen here

To keep the hybrid theme, shouldn't it be 4 + 2?
The shape looks cool.

Here is what not to do
Make sure the screws are the right size, take your time lining up the neck plate, pre drill the screw holes using a depth guide, clamp the neck on then put the screws in. Look forward to seeing some photos.

Looks great with the neck that way, gives it a bit of a Jimi vibe, I like the mods you have done to the Fender shape.
