  1. I really hate this icon. hahaha... I drive a manual transmission 4-banger Toyota 4x4 pickup. Wouldn't trade it for the world. By that, I mean, I wouldn't trade it unless I was getting another standard with 6cyl. by Toyota. Here in the Tropics of Maine, if you dont have 4 wheel drive; you dont get out of you driveway this time of year. And if you drive an automatic, its because "they didnt have this model with manual transmission at the dealer!"
  2. Thanks for the comments, perhaps I was not very specific....The word veneer was wrong to use...There are shell substitute sheets that are far cheaper and look decent online. They are fake and easier to cut then other similar organic shell materials. They appear to be realistic, cheaper and offer more color varieties. This is only to glamour up a project guitar. I had only seen a single eBay posting, and it was from the UK. The thickness was the same as what I had seen at Stewart MacDonald. Regards, Norm
  3. Daveq is saying that you may save yourself time and money by practicing the actual routing on a cheap piece of wood (incase you make any routing mistakes)
  4. Hey fellaz I did my best to look in past articles about inlay; so if I ask the same question that was already asked, I appologize... Has anyone used a shell substitude veneer? Is there any good paua/abalone, MOP, etc veneers? I saw some on ebay the other day (I like it, I dont care...) but they were in the U.K. and didnt feel like waiting for shipping over seas.
  5. Also, on the RR5 design, I believe you could very easily mask the wires by making routed channels underneath the chrome pickguard (volume/tone/toggle). Hammer Explorer does it that way. So do many others.
  6. I HAVE to comment on the neck dude, sorry...I am a jackson RR series fanatic, but never built one myself...There are several places to pick up discarded ones from jerks like us who get bigger and better ones. The curvature of the fretboard on a 24 fret neck is also pretty key IMHO, because its easier to reach and more comfortable. Also, are you thinking about your neck speed? My Jackson RR1 is pretty slow in comparison to my ESP LTD Horizon. About the hiding of electronics, you CAN hide your wires and whatnot in any number of clever guises; but in the event of a dead POT or faulty pickup or broken connection because your friend kicked your guitar while it was resting on your amp...Its handy to get at them from the back. You dont need to route it the same exact way, you could make them smaller. Good luck on this and post lots of pics about your progress...I mean everything!
  7. Ewww...Radio Shack....*quivers* I second the sound clips! Lets here those bad boys! I really want to build a guitar pedal and this thread is getting me a bit excited....
  8. While my face is my own, I think that its mostly a cross of Dimebag with a smidgen of Zakk Wylde. Damn, that makes me sound cool.
  9. Wow, I think the CD is freaking awesome. But I may just be supporting one of my favorite singer/songwriters of all time. I have seen Tool and APC in concert several times and over several different album releases. This newest release was not a disapointment at all. I also found that the album and the videos and the staging are more aesthetically pleasing than usual. This is a plus in my book; shows the attention and dedication of a true artist.
  10. I was thinking about routing below the pickups. I know that there are some signal filters that can be added, I have seen them used in computer mods.
  11. Jackson/Charvel all the way!!! Oh, lets not forget ESP.
  12. I have a basic understanding of the way a passive pickups and and active pickups work. I was wondering if anyone has any links or helpful ideas on how to make a passive pickup (example being Screamin Demon) and turning it into an active one. Are there any real benefits of doing this? Oh, and lest I forget, I have been creeping in the shadows for some time, I really like the tutorials section and this forum! Keep up the good work!
