  1. Hey Sauce, If you really wan't to get into this subject go to the Epiphone Forum, on Gibsons web, start a post with the Epi VS. Gibson heading and watch the fur fly!!!
  2. Hi Gang, Bear here...Happy New Year!!! just thought I'd report back on my progress with ageing my pickguard; I've been soaking it in nasty old coffee and a splash of Behlins Lemon Yellow Stain for about a week now.....It's working!!!! Compared with the bright white pickguard thats on the guitar now it is a lovely cream color with just a hint of that nice "tobacoey" yellowing. I'm going to continue soaking it for another week or so and see what happens. Oh yeah by the way, as intriquing as the smoking idea was Wez, living in an apartment as I do I did'nt think the other tenants would appreciate several days of smoke wafting through the building....but thanks for all of the thought that went into the idea it probably would have worked!
  3. Hi Gang, I'm working on relic'ing a strat type guitar....any suggestions for ageing or yellowing a white pickguard? I'd like it to look like it's done several decades in a smokey bar. Thanks Bear
  4. What kind of "tunas" are you going to use? Sorry about that but it had to be said
  5. Hi Trash, I've had good luck just using lighter fluid and Qtips
  6. Hi Trip, P-90s or a coil tap on a humbucker should give you a "brighter" sound or alittle more clarity. good luck sounds like a cool guitar.
  7. I would recomend the routing out a hole and puting in a piece of wood, if you use Dap or other wood fillers they are going to shrink and look like hell. I've put inlays of contrasting wood in a couple of my guitars and as long as you can cut the plug to fit the hole it looks great .... good luck
  8. Thanks everybody, I'll go to the tutorial. I appreciate the tip on the wax paper I probably wouldnt have thought of that. Oh by the way Rob G I'm just down the road from you in Salt Lake nice to hear from a Homeboy
  9. Hi gang, I recently aquired a beautiful supply of tiger stripe maple veneer and would like to apply it to a slab of mahogany prior to cutting out the body. I would appreciate any tips you might give me as far as what type of glue to use, how to clamp it etc. Thanks Bear
  10. I may be wrong but I don't think it would be hard enough to use as a nut! How about a nice contrasting inlay on the body?
  11. That is a really cool design, everytime I design a new guitar I cop out and end up with a nice little LP jr clone nice guitars mind you but very conservative ...Anyway I admire your edge
  12. Hi gang , I agree with mickguard... I always do all of my routing first, I want as much material around my router base as i can get but if I happen to cut out the shape first micks suggestion about using the cut out pieces for support works.
