I understand that one has to consider the entire chain as a whole, but that is not what I am talking about. I want to to know what is accomplished with wiring a tone circuit the way it normally is. I was under the impression that it was a low pass filter, but the way it is wired up seems off. I am not looking for an example of what to use, but more an explanation of what and why the tone circuit is wired the way it is.

Thanks Tim. I have dealt with Ansil in the past, and he is very knowledgeable. The mod is neat, but what i really need is a clarification of a rc filter in regards to a guitar tone circuit.

While playing around with tone mods I decided to make it a high pass filter. When I went to implement that on the guitar my brain locked up. A tone pot is wired up to be a low pass filter correct? Here is my dilemma: This is a low pass filter but I see the tone pot as being wired like this for a tone pot to be a low pass filter shouldn't it be like this instead of this way, which is the normal method? I tried to supply images so everyone knows what I'm getting at. I know I mentioned that i was playing with high pass filters, but first I want to know if I'm correct. Is a tone pot not wired as a low pass filter? Also would my diagram work as a low pass filter. If not what is my brain missing?

I also have a Faded V. After a while the neck gets naturally buffed down. If you want to speed up this process you could rub the neck with cloth while applying some pressure. It may take a while but eventually you will buff down the finish and ever so slightly burnish the wood on the neck. Ive had my V for about 6 years, and at this point the neck is smooth and slick.

The easiest way is to spend the money on proper parts, and design a circuit that has guitar signal in mind. This probably won't be the cheapest or quickest solution. Like I said before, you need to find out what the specs of the tank are. There should be some markings on it somewhere that will look like a serial number. If you can find that we may be able to find out the input and output impedance of the the tank and then we can help you design a proper circuit. As it stands right now all we know is that you have some reverb unit from an organ, but you have to realize that not every reverb tank is the same. A couple people here have already given you some great starting points regarding how to get this effect working well. To build a good effect you are going to have to drop some cash into this project. If you want to do it with what you have available the effect can be brought up to a working state, but it may not be optimal. The current configuration you have works, but not well. Without knowing the specs of the reverb unit there is no real way to give you a definite answer. It would be like walking into a restaurant and simply saying you wanted some food, you would be able to get some but it may not be exactly what you wanted because the waiter did have the info he needed to tell the kitchen what to prepare.

I'm currently working on a 3 humbucker LP with a 6 position rotary and each pickup can be individually split. 18 different sounds and one of them is similar to what you are asking for: north coil neck humbucker in parallel with the south coil of the middle humbucker. Its not exactly the same but may be close enough to give you an idea. With the humbuckers it is very low DC resistance but the volume drop isn't bad. I'll see if I can get a recording up if you want.

I personally would have cut it the other way around and had the animals on the front. Then again I love weird **** like that.

PRS Tait I was actually considering something exactly like that lol. The only reason I was considering using my dremel is because I live in an apartment. I have my dremel here and can use it pretty easliy. My router (wel most of my shop) is still at my parents until I buy a house with somewhere to put it all lol. The only thing that may give me trouble is where the binding meets the finger board, but I think I will be able to amke a samll area underneath it and essentially inlay the binding.

I plan to use a router to get most of the channel done and then use a dremel and some hand tools to finnish the channel where it meets with the FB. Or now that I think about it I may just use the dremel the whole way around

I am over hauling my Epi LP Ive got new pickups in it with custom wiring and will be adding some gold hardware. I got this guitar years ago really cheap because someone tried to install new tuning machines and butchered the head stock (6 inline with 3 backwards). At the time I was not the best with tools but managed to do a somewhat acceptable job of doweling and re-drilling the tuning machine holes. It worked but wasn't pretty. Long story short (kinda late now) I plan on re-doing the job, but much better now that I have tools and some experience. I was thinking, while I'm fixing and refinishing the headstock, of adding binding to the headstock. The neck and body are bound and the headstock looks odd to me without it. I don't think there will be an issue, but I always like to get second opinions on this board from some of the more experienced people. I plan on doing a single ply of cream to match the rest of the guitar, so not much material will be taken away. I am also considering reshaping the headstock as I have always hated the Epi shape, it just seems a little too lumpy looking. P.S. I know there may be a person or 2 who is wondering why I am putting all this work into an Epi. I've got a Gibson V as my main guitar, but also a few that have sentimental value. The Epi sounds great and plays great as well as having a lot of sentimental value, so no one needs to tell me to save up for a better guitar.

coffee grounds help absorb smell. I smoke and when I had to sell a car I left an open can of ground coffee in the car for about a week and it sucked up most of the smell (don't use the coffee after obviously lol). try putting the pedal in a gallon freezer bag then fill coffee filters with the round coffee and tie them at the top to make little pouches. put ad many as you can in the bag with te pedal and leave it for a while.

hmm good point. I am pretty good with my soldering iron, so I think T'll do some test runs on some junk components and see how it works out. I think the I rember the CAT5 being fire from when I purchased it to run a network through the walls at my mum's house.

Thats what I thought. I usually reuse wire from old electronics as it is free, and Its bit less crap in the landfill.

I was wondering if using an Ethernet cable is adequate for use inside a guitar. On a LP project I'm working on I need to run 7 wires from a rotary switch in the upper bout to the control cavity. I have some Ethernet cable lying around and wondered if it would be ok. There are 8 wires in the cable in 4 twisted pairs. I don't se a reason why I couldn't use it but I thought I would ask here to see if anyone could offer up a response.

I use a mix of equal parts Tung-oil, Poly, and Napthaapplied with a series of synthetic steel wool pads. it takes a bit to build up but it protects well enough and plays beautifully. it can be buffed to a semi-gloss finnish

I was playin around with some teles at work today and i got to thinkin. Ive never seen either tele neck style pickups or lipstick tube pickups wired up adn aplced together like a humbucker. So i was jsut wondering if anyone had done this before and could attest to the sound. Obviously a true humbucker has one coil reverse wound, but you stil get hum-reduction when wiring together 2 pickups. Does anyone know where i may beable to get a tele/ltube pickup then a reverse woudn opne to make a true humbucker with them?

I use a similar method to that. it creates a much more drastic carve . I use a 1/2" cove bit and route along the edge of the guitar body, then i remove most of wood with either rasps, orbital sanders, or just sanding blocks depending on the degree of carve im goin for. I like this method becauseit results in a nice even lip and a sharp carve (wich is what i like).

I also have to agree with a L500XL its one of my favorite pickups. Its great with distortion and has tight lows and plenty of harmonics. Its what Dimebag used up until SD made the dimebucker for him (wich borrowed heavely from the L500XL). EMGs are nice aswell i have those in one of my guitars and I do like the distorted sounds alot but i tend to use it more in my effect heavy rigs. It does depend alot on what sound your goin for.

I personally love maple necks oil finnished. I got a cheap strat for tinkering around on and I stripped all the finnish oof the neclk then sanded up to 600. After sanding with 400 for a bit I then wet sanded my oil fiinish on the neck i let ti soak in for a bit thne wipe off the extra. I wetsand entirely with 600. After that i buff it heavely with an extra extra fine synthetic steel wool pad after its dried for a day i polish it up a bit with a lint free cloth. I use a equal parts tung/poly/naptha mix and this gives me a very smoth neck. ive done this to a couple necks now all are heavely played and have been for several months and they arent dirty at all. This is how i do my necks and i absolutely love it.
