  1. Hi everyone, I just subscribed to the forum and i never built a guitar, but is my dream one day to do so and I'm already imagining how it would turn out. I have this general idea of a pickup configuration in mind and I don't think I ever seen a guitar exactly like it, i wonder why, and that's why I would like to ask you what you think. I would love a single coil in the neck position, a P-90 in the middle and a hambucker in the bridge, with a 5 way switch strat style: neck, neck and p-90, p-90, p-90 and humbucker, humbucker, with the humbucker being splittable (so that i could combine
  2. Hey guys, I am building a guitar and I want a humbucker in the neck and single coils for the middle and bridge positions. I would like 3 volumes and 3 tones, is this possible? If so, can someone get me a diagram or does anybody know who I could contact to get the info? Thanks a lot!
  3. Hi everyone! This is my first post - and first build - so bear with me if I'm still learning! In summary, my uncle has offered me a guitar body that he made and routed before he retired as a carpenter; I haven't seen it yet, but I'm told it has a Tele-shaped basswood body, with body cuts and is routed for a floyd rose bridge and 4 pickups - two humbuckers at the bridge, and two single coils at the neck. I've been looking into what to do with this, and I decided that it would be fun to try and fill all four routs, however, my experience regarding guitar wiring is limited at best, and
  4. tl;dr version; Just bought this guitar, humming issues, no experience in electronics, please help! Hello everyone...it´s been quite a long time since I last visited. I hope you guys are doing well. I just got myself a beautiful, previously owned Godin A6 Ultra, just got it today in the mail! As you can see, it was modded. I bought it on a site which I believe is owned by ebay. I´ve purchased many things there, and never had an issue. Certainly, I hope that is the case this time as well, but I would appreciate guidance. I have zero experience with electronics. Ok, so the guitar w
  5. Hi all, I've recently started guitar building and I've begun with a starter project: an electric ukulele (les paul type). It's going well for now and I will post my build log soon, but I've hit a wall regarding the electronics . Since electric ukuleles are not mainstream, I couldn't find any pre-made pickups (aside from acoustic pickups) and from what I've seen by googling many tend to use regular 6 strings pickups. But personally I find it too large and it takes-up too many space on the body. So I've decided to build my own pickup (I'm aware it may be a little too complex for a be
  6. So I have an Ibanez RG320 that I am fixing up. I have the Dimarzio's that were used in the Charvel San Dimas Re-Issue Circa 1995. They are labeled J152 and J158. Everything I read online says these Ibanez RG320's should have a 5 way switch however it looks as though I have a 3 way. There are only 3 positions that it will go to and there are 7 poles on it(7 places to attach wires). This is my first time to wire up a guitar and it looks as though I can keep most of the wiring that the previous person had done, however I am unsure exactly how to wire to the switch since i cant find a diagram
  7. Commercially-made routing templates for humbuckers are easy to find from virtually all good luthiery supply outlets these days. They're a fantastic turnkey solution for carrying out this common task. Beyond the "standard" sizes, templates for larger pickups are thin on the ground meaning that we end up making them ourselves. Standard or not, the process of making a template for any humbucker-style pickup is the same and it's not a huge leap to tweak the dimension to fit a variety of pickup sizes such as mini humbuckers, etc. Pickups fitted into pickguards or under a pickup ring don't
  8. Hello, I received these pickups from a friend with absolutely no information on them. I was thinking of trying them out in a project guitar but since I do not know the manufacturer (I'm assuming they must be knock offs) I'm not quite sure how to go about wiring them up since none of the wires seem to fit any standard wiring color. the wires coming out of the humbuckers are blue, white, yellow, red and bare. the only markings on the bottom side are F and R, which I assume is for Front (neck) and rear (bridge). I'm putting them into a strat with a way selector switch. any i
  9. The information in Bill's original article is still 100% correct; using his method of drawing out your pickup for visual reference in combination with this video you should have zero problems figuring out those mystery buckers!
  10. I'm having some trouble selecting pickups for a project I'm doing. I'm constructing a Mahogany Warrior body that I'd like to use with a Jackson DK2M neck. I'd like to use an aggressive set of HBs for this project considering the body shape. I'm just not sure what I should use. I'm considering HBs that are balanced in the tonal range like Seymour Duncans "Black Winter" (high: 6/10 mid: 6/10 low: 6/10). I'm not sure, technically, if this is a good choice considering the body/neck materials. Anyone have a recommendation?
  11. Hello, to all of you, electronic gurus ! I'm currently working on a "swiss army knife" custom guitar, but I want everything planned out, before actually buying anything critical. (features: tremolo, on-board FFactory clone, coil split, MAYBE a sustainer...) So. I've been hearing that market-available sustainers don't work with a neck pickup, because of interferences. But, I want a sustainer (thanks to the amazing "sustainer ideas", i could do the sustainer system myself, possibly modifying it to fit my demands), and I want my two sh2 and sh4 seymour duncan pickups BUT, I've come acro
