  1. I'd vote for flea, but only because i like the chili peppers do damn much! (Oh, and because he's a great bassist) i don't know how you can forget Flea. I read that he only learned to play the regular 6 string guitar when recording the one hot minute album. he spent much of his career just playing bass guitar, never bothering with regular guitar. Sounds crazy eh? I thought that knowing how to play bass went hand in hand with playing guitar. (Similar instruments.) Anyway, I absolutely love some of the basslines that he's come up with. The aeroplane bassline is brilliant.
  2. Pretty good! I've not evenstarted on my first one yet, (I've gotta get a job first to fund it all.) but i hope my first turns out as good as that.

    Pots

I'm just wondering what kind of potentiometers (pots) I should use. I've decided that I'm using 500Kohm pots, but I don't know whether I should get logarithmatic or linear pots. Which does the job better?
  4. Excellent sites, Dave & brian. That touchstone catalogue seems to be a Bible for a guitar maker. They do neck and body blanks, and a hundred other things - Even really little things which i was worried would pose a problem to obtain. Thanks a lot!
  5. Thanks v. much. That site is brilliant. It seems to have everything!
  6. I've browsed through a lot of guitar part catalogues online, and it seems that you can get everything for a guitar these days aside from a truss rod. Does anyone know where you can get a truss rod from in the Uk, how much it will cost, or if it is possible to make your own?
  7. I've got a guitar on the drawing board right now, and the type of bridge I'm gonna be using is irritating me. I'm a big fan of gibson guitars which tend to use the tunematic bridges, so I'm looking into using them, but they seem a little fiddly. I'm also worried that I might have action problems if I use a tunematic wit ha stop tailpiece. I'm a complete beginner as well, so i'm really looking for the easy route. I'm thinking that a fender-style bridge would be easier, since there's no need for a tailpiece, and it seems easier to build in, but my main concern is that it's a little too low for my liking. I'm also on a budget, so I can't really get any high-quality bridges, so it's a question of whether a cheap tunematic or a cheap fender-style bridge will be more durable. (I'm not spending a lot of money, since I'm a beginner, and the guitar probably on't be all that good, being my first, so I see little point in pumping a lot of cash into it.) I have another thing that's plaguing my mind - tremolo or non tremolo (If I opt for the strat-style bridge) I'm thinking non-trem since I play an epiphone les paul copy which has a tunematic bridge, and I'm not really used to using tremolo when I play.
  8. Yeah. I saw the strat thingy that's this month's featured guitar, and it gave me some confidence that I could do it by hand. I'm just worried mainly about doing the truss rod trench without a router. I'm crap at woodwork, so knowing me, I'll find some way to screw it up. But it's gonna be fun making the thing, and if i finish with a guitar that is actually playable, I'll be over the moon! I've decided that I'll have a maple body, maple neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. This seems to be the general advice I've found anyway. I've just got to find a wood dealer who'll sell some decent rose/maple wood, (i.e. No knots.) and I can start.
  9. Hey there. I'm a guitarist. I'm 18 years old and I'm interested in building my own guitar, and the more I've looked around, the more I'm starting to think it's all possible. Since I'm finishing my exams and leaving college soon, in the next year, I'll have a job and I don't want to spend all my free time just playing playstation, so I thought that making my own guitar would be a good hobby to take up. Just one question though - i don't have a lot of fancy equipment available that I can use to make a guitar, so I'd be making it by hand most of the way. I don't have a router or anything like that, but I'm quite confident that I'll be able to do it without one, though it'll require much more effort. I've not actually started yet. I'm just aspiring, but it looks like I'll actually get this one off the ground. I doubt I'll be able to make a really good instrument. I'm just hoping that I can make some kind of flying V style guitar that I can plug in and play, even if it does sound bad. (At least I can say I made it!)
