allstellar
Just wondering how thick the top wood needs to be to carve it into a les paul type top.... Thanks.
pyroman
Its my understanding the on gibsons its 7/8'' thick but that 3/4'' to an inch is fine. ASwell les pauls are not archtops there solid body carved tops. Edited April 15, 2005 by pyroman
Myka Guitars
Most Les Paul solidbody archtops (or carved top) are 5/8" thick. Some builders even go as thin as 1/2". I personally like 11/16" or more on my guitars. If I have access to thicker woods like 1" I will definitely use them and make the arches taller. A tall arch looks really cool.
