  1. I don't know if this has been discussed before but anywho.

I'm building a guitar. It's maple and I really like the look of the grain. It's all bubbly and stuff. How should I paint it red so you can still see the grain?

Paint is opaque and is not what you would use if you want to see the grain.

What you would want to do is either or dye the maple the color you want then clear coat it, and / or tint the clear with your dye and shade to your desired level of transparency.

  2. I have not done a lot of dots, but so far my preferance is to use CA, I guess I just like the quick setup time.

As for shimming the neck to get a strait hole, I probably would.

It will allow your bit to enter flat to minimize any wobble / travel / tearing.

Another consideration is the thickness of your inlay.

A thin dot set at an off angle risks being sanded through on the low edge.

  3. This may be a bit late. I purchased this exact refurb 6 ''Delta from Tool King and I'am very happy with it. $189 and $8 shipping. Im a sucker for discounted shipping :D -Vinny

I had one of those little Deltas and I wanted to like it so bad, but had to retun it.

The outfeed was warped and the fence broke the first day.

I really wanted to love it though, great weight, good power, 2 speed, ...

If you score one with good tables, your set.

I wonder if in fact the referbs could be better than the fresh ones off the boat.

Ended up finding a real nice older 6" Craftsman on Craigs List for $125.

It's one of the smaller 36"models so it's not "too" hard to move and it is flat and true:)

If you keep your eyes pealed, there are some good deals pop up on Craigs List.
