  1. With the neck through blanks available through stew mac and carvin, is it possible to construct the guitar with a neck angle so a tune o matic bridge can be used? I was thinking that the body wings would have to be glued on an angle, but wouldn't that created a weird gap on the bottom of the guitar?

as well, is it possible to put a bookmatched figured wood top on, i reason this would require routing the top, but how would one route around the neck?

  2. looking for the following items to convert my ESP eclipse over to gold hardware:

3x3 gold tuners, don't have to be brand name, just hold tune well

gold tune o matic style bridge

    gold stop tailpiece

gold 3 way switch with black tip

2 black plastic pick up covers

    3 gold dome style knobs

I have all of those in pieces in chrome if someone wants to trade (with cash on my end) email at lowe9@rogers.com or reply here

  3. i have a pentium 486 lying around here, 25mhz, 8mb of ram, 350 gig hard drive, 2x CD rom email me at lowe9@rogers.com

my bad, its only 350megs, im too used to new stuff, i think its a 93, it hasn't been plugged in in forever, but it works.

  4. does anyone have any idea where you could possibly buy one of these or have one made? i am looking for one for my next project. There are a couple of rather cheap guitars on ebay right now, the guitars are crap (so say harmony central user reviews) but im wondering if i could just hack everything out, put on a nice new warmoth neck, and ebay the old parts. Ideally i would like to buy a body however.

  5. yes, i was referring to the finish itself. I tried Watco Clear Lacquer (apparently nitro cellulose) and it never dried flat, even with sanding between each coat, the surface is covered in tiny pinhole sized holes that are slightly lower than the finish. This is was prompted my asking the question, or should i invest in a different kind of lacquer? however, i live in canada, and cannot order anything except waterbased finishs off the internet due to shipping restrictions.

  6. I am wanting to refinish my RG body in an orange metal flake. however i have no spray equipment of my own and usually do refinishing with spray cans. I assumed that an auto body repair shop would be able to do the work, but i phoned around and only one (out of 15 or so) would do the work, and they quoted around $300 to do the work. Does this price seem fair, or is there somewhere i could send the body for refinishing? Or should i be looking for other buisinesses other than auto body repair shops?

  7. I need 2 humbuckers, i don't care what they are, or how bad they sound, i just need to humbuckers. If you don't have 2, one is fine, just post any cheap humbuckers, i buy the lowest priced ones. Please no PMs or Emails, i will contact the person who posted the cheapest humbuckers. Thanks.

  8. I have a set of plans for a late 50's LP that gives binding dimensions. It shows the top binding thickness as 0.190 overall. That's made up of inner laminated strips that total 0.120 thick (b/w/b/w/b/w) and a 0.70 thick black strip on the outside. The depth on the side is shown as 7/32".

There was also a back binding that was 7/32" deep. It was made up of a 0.80 inner section (b/w/b/w) and an outer black strip of 0.70.

Hope this helps. I don't have anything on modern LPs.

these dimensions represent a les paul custom, not a les paul standard. les paul standards have a binding strip approximately half of what a les paul custom is. they also do not have the black and white, just solid white. The back is not bound on a les paul standard, the neck is, but the headstock is not. I beleive the thinkness on the neck is 0.60, and the thickness on the body is 0.90

  9. Unable to order the 1/16 plastic rod stew mac position markers, as they have a 30 dollar minimum order. I have been unable to find anything like this at any local stores, so does anyone have any suggestions for anything that can be turned into position markers? I have heard about using pencil crayon, but im kinda sketchy about that working.

  10. As requested, Pictures

Bass Body (note, i made a mistake when i said black, the body is actually transparent black, with ash, or a similiar grained wood)

and the bridge (The bridge actually looks better than the pic, its kinda dirty and needs to be taken apart and given a good cleaning.)

  11. Time to clean house to help support the purchase of an oh so nice ibanez hollowbody i saw at the music store

    First up we have:

    Samick Bass Body.

P Bass style, Black finish, in good condition, a few scratches but nothing through the finish, no nicks either. 2 active pickups, gold hardware, all electronics. Also included is the neck with 4 gold tuners, however the neck is cracked where they attacehd the headstock. the fingerboard is also cracked, it is at a fret slot though, the fret is missing. So have yourself a real nice bass body, all hardware, all you have to do is ebay a cheap neck and slap her on. I'm looking for $60 dollars, but make me an offer

    Secondly

    Boss chorus pedal CE-20

one of the nice double pedals, with 6 pedals in one. every imaginable chorus sound. mint condition, never used live, a great pedal. Looking for $100, but make me an offer

    Lastly

    Takamine Explorer GX 100T

during the 80s, takamine decided to get onboard with the hair metal craze and put out a few electrics. This one is straight out of the 80s, with a black and red burst. 22 fret set maple neck with rosewood board, dot inlays, firebird style headstock. silver hardware, alder body. near mint with a few teeny tiny nicks, which have been touched up. no deep scratches or buckle rash. I upgraded the bridge pick up with a Bill Lawerance XL 500, which is pretty much the same pickup as the Seymour Duncan Dimebucker. make me an offer, but i am hoping for $250

Pictures on request, email me at rite_of_chaos@hotmail.com

  12. Is silicon in polishing compound really all that bad when using a laquer finish? i am asking as the maguire's polishing compound is 3 times more than the turtle wax polishing compound, which apparently contains silicon. Yet on the top of the turtle wax container it says "recommened for rubbing down between coats of newly sprayed laquer and acrylic finishs." If they recommend it for in between laquer coats, shouldn't it be safe for laquer finishes? If i have to, i will shell the extra for the maguires stuff, but i would prefer to use the turtle wax.

  13. I have grain filled the mahogany parts of my les paul. i followed the directions on the side of the can, thinning with mineral spirits, then waiting for it to dry a bit, then wiping it off against the grain. its been 5 hours or so, and there is a now a filmy white residue on the guitar which isn't really dry. can i wipe this off with mineral spirits, does it harden and then i can sand it off?

  14. the guitar is being refinished, its down the bare maple right now, and getting painted with black laquer. i would like to leave most of the binding as it is good shape, and LP binding seems quite hard to find. With that in mind, i was thinking of replacing the top lamination of the binding section as the rest of it is in good condition.

  15. its a gibson les paul custom, and the binding is the only visual mishap. the binding is white, so it really shows. however i have been unable to find the right size binding, as it is a custom lamination, and is thicker than most binding sizes. Stewmac doesn't have what i need.

  16. Im working on a les paul custom that was in a fire. Due to the heat, a portion of the binding around the body has melted, and now has small little holes in it. Is there a quick fix for this, or somewhere i can buy binding for a les paul custom? thanks

    Andrew Lowe

  17. Well you see i was busy writing a biology exam, and finished writing it early. I then attempteted to draw a les paul on the back of my exam paper. Needless to say, i failed horribly. but i did come up with this cool looking design. I'm looking for opinions on how to improve the design, and maybe a headstock idea. I also photoshopped up this badboy, a double cut version
