  1. Bridge.jpg

I know the whole dealio on individual string height and intonation, but I still wanted to give this a shot. I'll get ahold of some springs to put on each of the long screws. I got the idea of using a threaded rod because on my last homemade guitar I used a jaguar bridge.

This was a long piece of aluminum, I put it in the vice and hit it with a hammer til I got about a 12 inch radius curve. The string holes are a little bit off, just because the small drill bit would shift off target. The threading is messed up in some spots thanks to the vice. I wrapped duct tape around the rod whenever I put it in the vice, but I guess I made it too tight a few times. So yeah, here it is.

  2. I want to make a travel size guitar. I'm using the neck of a squier mini. I want to make the headstock smaller so I was wondering if I can change the tuners of the top 3 strings from top to bottom. Is that "legal"? Will it work?

One more question. Are the tuners on a squier mini smaller than average? If they're not, I might want to buy some nicer tuners.

    Thanks for your time.

  3. So I have a Crate65 amp. It has an "extension speaker" plug but no "line out". So basically at shows it has to be mic'd which is kind of annoying. Is there anyway I can somehow change the extensions speaker to be a line out? Some sort of converter I can buy?

    Thanks.

  4. Thanks for the comments guys.

Yeah, I have to admit we're messy. There's alot of rough spots but at this point we're just happy with what we got.

The nut is screwed up place. The reason we used a nail is because the pre-cut fretboard we bought had a big ol' slot for the nut. I used a nail on my other guitar and noticed it had some good sustain. So, the slot was too wide for a piece fretwire and too small for the nut we had, so we used the nail for the zero-fret and the nut for the spacing. The nut is *ghetto*ly screwed in but works just fine.

As for the groundwire, we kind of forgot about it on building. Since I'm not exactly the wiring expert, he took it to his uncle, who is. I just kinda laughed and said "whatever" when he brought it back the the exposed groundwire.

  5. Last year I built a guitar. Now I just made a bass with the bassist in my band.

    So it's a neck-thru. It's all maple. The middle piece was a 2x6. The wings were 2x4.

P-bass pickup and volume control. Pretty stellar pickguard if I say so myself.

I really like the headstock on this puppy. I call it "The Shark".

We didn't really want it to look like any other particular guitar design, but I guess it kinda came out looking like a P-bass. Does it look like something else too? Not really sure.

Like the guitar I did, this guy's got a nail for a zero-fret.

  6. Well at Easter dinner with my extended family, my uncle talked about how he toured the louisville slugger factory. I asked what they were made out of and he said ash. I know that's a guitar wood so it got me thinking. If you sliced a louisville slugger lengthwise, you could build a pretty sweet makeshift guitar. I'm thinking there'd only be enough room for 2-3 strings but it would still be cool.

    What do ya'll think?

  7. Well I got my guitar all wired up. It's plugged into a 65watt amp, turned up halfway. When the tone knob is at 0, everything is fine. When I turn the tone knob forward, the guitar starts screeching.

    Anyone know what's up?

  8. Well last spring I built a guitar. Everything's pretty cool except the humbucker screeches when the amp is turned loud enough for band practice. The pickup is close to the bridge. The guy at the shop I bought it from figured it was jap-made in the 80's. I don't know if it screeches because of its positioning, if it's just defective, or if it's the way I wired it.

What do you guys think? If it's the position, I guess I'm screwed. If it's the wiring, guess I can fix that. If it's the pickup, I'll probably buy a new one.

  9. Well this is part to show off my progress and part to ask a question.

Pretty sweet eh? Well I really have no clue have the pickup wiring for the split-coil P-bass works. I tried one configuration (which you see in the pic) and it buzzes hecka loud. I'm just shooting for a volume control so the wiring should be relatively simple.

    So how is it done?

  10. I've changed my mind and want it to be white(no grain). What's a relatively quick and cheap way of doing it? I did a search and read about other white jobs but I'm not exactly sure how it all works. Does it go something like this?

    1. lacquer (whatever that is)

    2. sand

    3. color (white)

    4. lacquer

    5. sand

Several coats of 1,3,4 of course.
