This would be killer with a loop and a compression pedal. Then you'd have not only bass and guitar but also percussion. You might tune it down a bit to ease off the tension, and to play some really thick rhythm stuff. Maybe even try an open tuning of some sort and play around with fingerstyle on it.

I could think of a million things to try on this guitar.

the neck is kick ass, it's great.

but the body, I have to admit... Don't like it as much I like the neck !

I wanted to go for a singlecut shape- it's not perfect (yet!) but it's very comfortable. Next time i'll adjust the bridge half of it to make it less boxy, and i'll probably go a bit curvier with it. Glad you like the neck, it's lovely to play.

Ugh. 28" scale and standard tuning.......

If anything, I would make it into a baritone with a drone on the bottom, I guess you could call it.

Yes, I have to agree with your disdain for the scale length; i'm not a fan of huge strings, so i went with the 28" over the 27 or 26, so that the bass side wouldn't have to be as thick... i spend much more time that side anyway Adding an extra drone is something that I hadn't thought about, but may very well try! The E'EE tuning sounds great, really thick and full- it actually sounds like a bass guitar and a regular guitar playing together, especially if you play something like:

I'm not finished with playing with the tunings on this, but it's not going back to F# i don't think. I'll probably try putting it in B with an extra high A at some point, just to see what it's like, although i'm going to have to get some strings in the .005 sizes i think for that.

Correct, the E' is the E on a standard bass guitar, the two E's above that are the standard E on a guitar, and the rest is standard tuning; it's essentially tuned standard, but with a unison and a octave below bolted on the side.

Yea, the tension is too high- if you like tight strings to play lead on, then it's fine, but if you (like myself), prefer looser strings, and to bend a fair amount, then it doesn't really suit.

A month or so ago, I finished an 8 string guitar, but after playing it for a while I disliked the F# 'standard' 8 string tuning, so I retuned it to E'EEADGBe, so by barring the bottom 3 strings, both the bass notes and the guitar notes can be played. Anyway, on with the pictures!

Neck carve

The body is Idigbo, with the neck being laminates of maple, purpleheart and padauk. The fretboard is the lovely cocobolo, and the pickup is the EMG 45DC. It sounds really nice and clear, the clean sounds are incredible It's a 28" scale, however, I don't really like the feel of the high strings, even with 9's they are too tight for me, I much prefer my fanned fret guitar, but I had this bridge for a while so I put it to good use.

I've got a few more projects on the go at the moment, so i'll try and get some pictures of them too at some point.

Unless i'm not understanding you correctly, just take your cavity cover template, and grab a sharp pencil and some of your choice templating material. Then draw around the cover template, and just route that out.

Or have i got the wrong end of the stick?
