  1. Thanks for all the good comments. The shape was concepted by a friend of mine for a guitar he wants, originally he said he wanted something radical and new, and then he drew me a picture of a warlock. I had to say "Come on man! We can do better than that!" I drew several ideas including melds of explorers warlocks, rhoads v's, and the standard v, and this is the design he ended up liking the most. Drak I'm glad you like it so much. Did you make fun of your own design there? Or is my computer on glitch.... EDIT: And why did you get rid of the batman post!?
  2. not sure yet...haha the concept has just recently come up and woods depend on how much money will be present.
  3. I just spend about 30 mins out in the garage creating the "prototype" for a project i plan to start on late summer. Just wanted to see what ya'lls thought about it.
  4. the project is from pieces? where did the pieces come from? I'm curious to see where you found that body if you didnt make it! Looks excellent though!
  5. i think the new version looks more centered. HOWEVER, i would bring the line on the upper body bout back out almost to where it was. I think another half an inch would work great, just because for some reason it seems with the new line that the upper half now seems smaller than the lower half. Sorry to kind of reverse what was being said, but i just think that would be best.
  6. thanks for all the good replies. 1. I built the entire thing from scratch. 2. I have a truss rod cover, just forgot to put it on 3. I'm actually a little disappointed with the finish, I'm hoping we'll get a chance to refinish it shortly and clean it up a bit. Keep the comments rolling!
  7. I finished this awhile ago, and so far I've had little feedback, I'd like to know more what people think! Please, fill me in.
  8. looks pretty good! what sort of acoustic instrument is that in the first pic? also i noticed some inner lines on the guitar, carved top? or some nice angles like on ESPs?
  9. ON THE OTHER HAND.....this looks way better and way cleaner than all of the work you've shown so far. This is your best, IMO. I'm glad you're takin the time to make it look good.
  10. I like how theres a headstock, but it doesn't appear to have any purpose
  11. Are you gonna do a carve top on this thing, i think that would be wonderful.....
  12. You cannot veneer a carved top, people need to stop recommending that
  13. Looks great! I love how your pics always go from using some stone age tool to having a perfect neck in one pic!
  14. is that a cross on there? perhaps a better pic of that little area. Looks like it turned out pretty good.
  15. erm....yeah....i originally planned for 22, but i wanted to make sure to get a preslotted f/b and the one i could find was in 25 1/2" scale, in order for the pickup to fit in at the end of the neck, i had to lop off the last fret.
  16. I assume you're talking about that nasty heel? The answer to your question is yes, it is possible, and actually smart, and won't weaken the neck joint at all. The only reason I did not eliminate this portion entirely is the guy its for wanted it exactly like the PRS style necks, which, includes the nasty heel.
  17. Here's my entry (wanted to get it in last month, but things got tied up) Specs: Custom 21 Fret PRS Copy Mahogany Back w/Quartersawn Hard Maple Carved Top Bookmatched Hard Maple neck (opposite nearly quartersawn grain for stability) Rosewood Fingerboard with 1/4" Abalone Dot Inlays (pearl side dots) PING (sperzel copies) Tuning Machines PRS Tremelo PRS Santana SE Pickups This is the second full guitar we have done. The first was a fretless bass flop, and this is the second.
  18. Sorry for the super long delay in posting, i've just been so busy lately (i just graduated from high school, yay!) and havent had time to finish the guitar or post, but here it is! First order of business, mikestro, my secret is this End Cove Router bit from Sears. It's the only one i could find anywhere ($30) Here she is! The maple on this thing weighs a ton, as does the mahogany (it was really dense & hard) and as a result, the tone is out of this world and so is the weight! This no flash pic gives a better idea of the color of the instrument as a whole. And finally a good pic showing off the carve! It's been great, and long, but im glad its done! Peace and Love Mitch (and Kirk, too)
  19. David I don't understand what you meant by backer piece, could you perhaps post a picture or explain some more?
  20. i think it is close. It has similar characteristics, yes, it IS in the same family (good of you to point that out), but I'm pretty sure mahogany and sapele come from different trees, though i may be wrong. I think, however, saying that it is a species of mahogany would be like saying monkeys are a species of humans.
