I have a jazz bass pickup that the lead and ground wires came off of while I was removing it from an old bass.

I have found the small copper wire to attach the lead wire to but I have no clue where to attach the ground wire. Should there be another wire to attach to at the base of the pickup somewhere or....?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Does anybody know how to determine the proper spot to put your pickups in relation to the scale of the instrument.

For maximum harmonic output or however you're supposed to word it.

I am specifically interested in this knowledge for bass guitar (jazz style pickups).

Yeah that's a good idea bout the dealer. I'm friends with a bunch of people at the local Guitar Center including one of the day managers.

I do know that I'll have to do some routing. I also play a Stingray that I love equally (though the neck is a little bit harder to play...) and I get much more versatility out of it...so I end up playing it instead of the Sabre, which I have more fun playing.

My band is just on the verge of touring nationally and so it's also sort of an "image" thing if you know what I mean. I'm designing the bass to look and sound the way I want to fit with our style.

So thanks for all the help...i'll look into those nordstrand p/u's some more...they always have plenty on ebay but $100 is a tough investment for something that's not a sure thing!

I'm modifying a vintage Musicman Sabre bass that I have and I really, really, want to put a Stingray pickup in it to give it that Stingray sound (I also have a Stingray that I love...and I want to have another..hehe).

Anyway...i got outbid on the last and only one I've ever seen on ebay, and Ernie Ball told me that they sold replacements, only to tell me a week later that they do not sell replacements.

If anyone has one that they want to part with, or if they know of someone who does, or if they know how to get ahold of one...well that would just be wonderful!

i listened to sparkle.  (only once, i'm on dial-up)

i like your singer's voice. (which is pretty rare for me)

but on a first listen, that's the only member of the band that stands out to me.  all the other parts sound okay, but there's nothing that really catches my ear.

that said, if i saw you at a local show, i'd buy a cd.  sometimes music takes a while to grow on me.

Hey all on PG. Just wanted to have you all checkout my band Soulmod. We just recently finished up some studio work on a new EP (not yet mastered) and I wanted to get people's opinions on it.

For those of you who like heavier music (I figure it's most of you) Inside Out and Hideout are your best bets. If you like all sorts of music including pop-ish, you should like them all!

For future reference, you need a good straight on shot of the body, not having one tends to be annoying.

idch, which type of "old style tremelo" were you planning to put on there?

Ie, a bigsby? like this?

They have more inexpensive versions of this out there (without the BIGSBY stamped on them to add $50 or $100)

In which case, if you used one of these the tailpiece itself would be mounted on the solid part of the bottom end of your guitar, and (not quite sure where that extra hole was drilled) but if you're lucky, it will be right about where you need to put your unattached bridge.

All in all, I suppose what I mean to say is: If you're planning to use this kind of bridge/tailpiece tremelo for your guitar, your top is plenty thick enough to support the weight of a bending trem. (After all, they are used on archtops which are also only a few mm's thick.

The adding of heavier gauged strings applied more tension to the trem springs in order to keep the guitar in the proper tuning/octave. Get your screwdriver (if you dare) and unscrew a couple of turns on each of the screws anchoring the claws (I'd say if you're doing it yourself, at MOST 1/2 a turn each time, and make sure you do it evenly, ie, don't loosen one screw a lot, and then go do the other until it's matched, do them as simultaneously as possible).

Otherwise, I'd take it to a professional and get it set up to work properly with the gauge of strings you're using.

The posts in this thread for the majority are a complete waste of space. I'm sorry if any of you feel otherwise, but I feel truly offended when there's 4 pages of jargon in the "In Progress and Finished" section and no pictures of the guitar, save the ones in said ebay auction.

Secondly I'm rather disappointed the the moderator involved, and other experienced parties are posting in this thread bashing, complaining, and speaking their grievances in a manner in which I think would not be condoned by them if they weren't themselves a part of it. It's simply childish how often this kind of thing happens around here.

Let the man deal with it on his own. Lit him reap his own consequences, instead of patronizing through the face of a computer like you have the right to do so in the first place.

Senor idch, I have a Dano convertible, and the pickup is actually mounted on two springs that suspend it from the back of the guitar. So the screws for installing it actually show on the backside, and the pickup is "loose" in the soundhole (its not actually LOOSE but its not attached)

I wouldn't set your sites much on something you don't know very much about.

Look into, consider, and play every amp you think you want to buy. Play every amp that you can find that's in your price range.

The guitar player in my band did it the "buy it and try it" way and it took him probably more than $10,000 worth of equipment and amps before he found what he liked. I woulnd't look forward to spending that kind of money if i just took my time and found what i want.

definately some kind of clear on the finish, I'm thinking gloss right now, but a satin-y finish might be pretty cool, too.
