  1. Here's some progress on a 5 String Neck Thru Bass that I've been working on over Christmas break. Unfortunately it is nowhere near finished, but she's starting to look good anyway.

Yes, the control cavity needs to be cleaned up a little.

    The specs thus far.

    Paduak/wenge/Paduak/wenge/Paduak Neck Thru Neck

    Purpleheart wing "spacers"

Bubinga body wings (with a maple veneer sandwiched between top and bottom)

    Macassar Ebony fingerboard

My favorite of them, the back :D

  2. Why are we giving this funnyas character any credibility anyway. He, by the way, only join this forum about 6 hours ago as of my post. This is just another useless bash thread that really, in this case, literally has nothing to do with Project Guitar or any of its affiliates in any way whatsoever.

Give it a rest, lets talk about something positive for once. If I were a mod I'd lock this thread down and let it drift away into the pages of history.

But since I'm not, I'm just rallying for it to be locked. Anyone wanna join?

EDIT: By the by, as far as we know, this is just a test by someone who thinks its funny to see how quickly we haters here at PG can rack up 5 pages of blather about how much we shun what litchfield does/has done/might do.

  3. how about square out the curves (or i guess rectangular out the curves) so that you have square corners to fill instead of round curves, and then cut a square insert or box shaped insert to fit in. Cut the insert just slightly too large so that you have to force it in, and you'll have a good fit, with maybe only some slight filling to do.

  4. I'm sick of hearing all sorts of different ways to say it, I want to know, once and for all, what's correct, or how you say it...

I say "pee-yay-zo" I think its Italian? Then the absolute correct way to say it would be "pee-yay-tso"

Paul Reed Smith says "Pie-zo" like a piece of mmm...pie

I have a friend who says "Pie-zio" which im sure is incorrect...what is it?

  5. I actually think the electronics in those basses are pretty slick. Im just not a big fan of the plastic. And also because the bodies are so light on some of them, the balance is neck-side, which i also dont like. They play pretty well, but I think that Ibanez's wood basses are far superior.

The ergonomic back shape on the newer basses (both wood and plastic) that they "borrowed" from Warwick please me much.

$120 is excellent for any bass, especially if it was an easy fix. I'd take that price, haha.

SO you must run some sort of wood business if you've made more than 60k using that thing :D...what do you do?

  6. This has been occupying all of my time for the past several days.

At this stage I sprayed a coat of rattle can black lac so i could be sure all the joints connected smoothly under the opaque finish. You can see in the pic that the surface is very rough (as it is sanded only to 100 grit...) This is not the final prep, it will be sanded through before finishing. All thats left is to cut the top and back binding channels and scrape the recurves. I'm going out of town for about 10 days, and Kirk will be doing these things as well as spraying the finish.

    Specs: (present and future)

    Maple top back and sides

    Solid mahogany core block

    Mahogany Neck

Ebony Fretboard (will have Les Paul custom style inlays)

    Ebony headstock face

    b/w/b/w binding on everything

    future:

Gibson BurstBucker Pro Bridge and Neck p/u

    Bigsby Vibrato Tailpiece

    Les Paul style wiring

    Undetermined tuners...

And the pics...remember, bad sanding/paint job, it was just a check method...

  7. I agree with Ski bum about the Scythe name. Edge is the second place voted right now, but i think that is maybe taken? It sounds like a Dean instrument for some reason...i could be wrong.

Otherwise, Mantis sounds pretty cool, or you could always shoot the ibanez method and call it the "LG5C" for Little Green 5 Cutaway or something like that....

  8. yeah the headstock shape can be cut whenever, it would be easiest if it were cut prior to the shaping of the back of the neck, so you can form the transition to the headstock at the same time you form the back of the neck. However, this isn't necessary, because you can always form that transition later.

How small of a drill press? Mines an 8 incher and I did a carve on an archtop (20"x17") and it worked fine.
