Hy,

I bought a set of Vintange noiseless pickups from Fender.

I read somewhere that the way Fender wires these things is not the best way to do it.

The kit contains a wiring diagram from fender, but is looks messy to me.

So can anybody help me : I have a 5 pos switch, a bridge, middle and neck pickup.

I found a shop where they have lots of guitar stuff.

Most of these things are from the brand "Boston".

Has anyone already heard of this brand and is it ok ?

Just want to make sure before I buy anything.

I have a tun-o-matic bridge.

Do I put on my bridge line on my body, or does it have to be angled?

If an angle is needed, what angle would I have to use.

I have all my hardware since this weekend, so I can start building.

It's the fractions that give me a headake (hope this is spelled correctly).

Like the 7/32.

Am I correct if I divide 7 ty 32 and then convert it to mm ??

would be 0.22 multiplied by the number of mm for a inch.

As I'm living in belgium, we do all our calculations in mm instead of inches.

i'm not going for a compound radius, so I guess I'll try the tun-o-matic.

If I use a tun-o-matic bridge, should the radius of my fingerboard be the same as the bridge itself??

(can't seem to find a non trem bridge fast. they only have the tun-o-matic type on stock.)

So we go full speed and take not too much wood at a time.

I have almost finished my templates and am ready to start routing the body.

The body will be routed out of a piece of mahogany.

As I understand Mahogany is a soft wood.

What routing speed should I use.

My router can go up to 25000 rpm.

Should I use a low or a high speed?

I don't have the tools yet, but i found a store in belgium where i can get them from.

i'm making my solid body first, but i'm already looking for the stuff to make my guitarneck.

I found some fret wire. the fret is 2.4 mm wide and 0.92 mm high.

It is fred wire from Jim Dunlop. Can I use this kind of wire for

my neck or is this a bad idea?

Other question.

I'm not using a pickguard on the body of the guitar.

I was thinking of reversing the normal strat setup. I mean i was thinking

of routing the pickups from the back of the body, leaving just enough wood

on the top to mount the pickups, pots en switch.

Do you guys think this is possible, or will the wood that is left be to

thin to mount these things in a solid way?

i think i'll stick with the non trem bridge.

as it is my first guitar installing a trem bridge looks a little bit

too complicate to me.

maybe i'll try this later.

What if i used a tun-o-matic type of bridge? Should the radius of

my bridge be the same as the radius of this type of bridge?

It seems logical to me, but I could be wrong.

I was looking for a non trem strat style bridge. They told me it didn't exist.

does anyone know where i can get this stuff?

I was thinking of using Vintage noiseless pickups from Fender.

The guy from the shop told me it was a bad choice (probably because he did not

have this set.) He told me i should be using DiMarzio, but here in Belgium they

are very expensive (like 120 $ a piece).

Did any of you use fender pickups ??

Hello guys,

the guitar i'm building is a solid body. it's not a copy of any existing stuff. The body looks like a combination of a fender strat and a gibson les paul.

at first i made all calculations (scale, bridge possition, fret possitions etc...)

fist all drawings were made on a piece of paper. i decided to redo the drawings in acad2000.

the whole idea was to print them out on a 1:1 scale and use these printouts to make templates.

does this make any sence? i thought, once i had the templates, making the guitar would be somewhat easier. (maybe this is wishfull thinking)

i ordered a special router bit to use with these templates.

the body on the acad drawing is not correct. i only needed the dimensions from the pocket, pickups and bridge. the distances should be correct.

does any of this makes any sence to you guys, or am i going the wrong way?

i'm trying to put some of the drawings here, but seems i can't put any dynamic links here.

The guy from the woodshop told me it was some kind of mahogony.

It has the same color and stucture for as far as I can see.

The pieces are 5 cm thick. I still have some planing to do, but I hope

it will leave me enough wood for the body.

I will probably go and buy my hardware by the end of this week. I was thinking of using a non trem bridge, to keep it simple for the first time.

Hi all,

I'm starting my first guitar project. It took me a while to do all the preparations, but i think i can finally start building.

I got hold of some wood. It's called Sipo.

Can I use this kind of wood to cut out my solid body?

The pieces are big enough to cut out the body without glueing them together.

Can i do it this way, or do I have to glue two pieces together ?

I'll probably have ton's of questions during the building. Just making sure i can use the wood i have now.

Any information is welcome.
