What power amp distortion sounds like depends on the type of power amp. If it is a SS amp or tube with NFB (most high-power amps) you get a harsh, trebly distortion (like Marshall). A tube amp with no NFB (like a Vox) gives you a tube-ish overdrive sound.

I like Dimarzios and nicer Ibanezes have them, but if you don't and you want to play metal you'd like EMG's.

I love that 3D look that quilted maple guitars have. How do you do that - is it just stained with clear laquer over it and polished to a high gloss, or is there some trick to it?

That was a hard one. The dream guitar was a work of art but we're voting for guitars, not art. (No offense 70sguy, I love your guitar too) I decided on the Priest Tribute. I love the inlays and side markers, but also the whole guitar just looks good.

I learned to solder in about 5 minutes and a soldering iron costs about $10. It's easy, just google "how to solder". You'll find something.

There's only a very small difference, but I just don't think that the second one looks right. I agree with biliousfrog, though, put the hardware on so you can see what the whole thing will look like.

Have you actually tried to adjust the polepieces on the side w/out the holder? Maybe they're not adjustable, Ibanez could have just make that coil match the other one for looks.

EDIT: Or you could just unwind them and rewind them with the same wire but by hand, because hand wound pickups sound better. It will take a long time, though.

Sorry, I don't know that much about pickups, I've never built my own... I have no idea why, to answer your question. Can you actually adjust the polepieces on that side? Most pickups with adjustable polepieces only have 1 adjustable coil, so I would think that your pickup should have 2 holders. Are you the first owner of your guitar? The only thing that I can think of is that someone else opened up your pickups and lost the polepiece holder.

Just because Ibanez used them doesn't mean you can buy them, because Ibanez makes their own switches. If you can find a destroyed guitar with one on it you could use that, but good luck finding one.

BTW, what are you using it to do?

I don't think that the pots + knobs were really one piece, they were just put together really tight. Why would B.C. Rich make it like that? It would make it about 10 times as hard to put the guitar together. My Ibanez has no screws on the knobs, I just pulled them off with pliers and they came off fine. (Probably not good for the body, but it worked.)

When you measured 18", you probably measured from the nut to the 21st fret. When you're measuring the scale, you measure from the nut to the bridge. Your neck has a normal 25.5" scale length.

Wow, I love your last build. Your new one's going good. It's not my kind of guitar, but I think that it will look good and be very unique.

Suicidecustom, are you sure they do that for tone? I'm pretty sure you use audio for volume and linear for tone.

Who's your supplier? They should have the pots. You've probably seen this, but on the PG homepage there is a large list of suppliers. You should probably just find a new one.

Yeah that's true about the natural look but I don't like natural unless it has a figured top.

Audio taper pots will give you smoother control around 1-3, but from 6-10 if you barely move it it will make a big difference. If you usually play with tone all of the way down you could use audio taper for more control, but that's not very common.

If they sound the same why would you want a 1-piece body? Just for looks?

If you buy a Fender-style neck from a neck company that isn't liscensed by Fender and use it on a guitar, who gets sued - you, them or both?

Wow, exoticwoods.com has a 1-piece alder body blank for $100 and a 3-piece for $46.

If you like the sound with it on but don't want the hum, you can make a series-parallel switch. You can find how to do this on any guitar electronics site. This will make it alot quieter, though.

I can't find a piece big enough to make the whole body, and I'm probably going to have to make a 2-piece body. Does this make any difference at all in the tone? I'm not finishing it natural so looks don't matter. Thanks.
