It's been a while since I've been here but here I am. I've got my video for the Dean Guitars Shredder Search in, and I've been doing pretty good but lately I haven't been able to get many votes. Alright guys, so I'm planning out my next project, which is going to be a JCM800 Clone (thanks Jason aka wwwdotcomdotnet) but I'm not sure about a few things. I've been looking at this schematic:

But I want to put an effects loop in it. I've done some searches but can't seem to find much. And I'm not really sure where to throw it in the schematic there. Any help would be appreciated unless it's telling me I've got a lot of research to do Thanks

It's a scarf joint. I'll try to get a close up soon.

If you want a tremolo, a recessed Floyd Rose would work too.

I just cut the fingerboard so that the binding can be installed! It took me a little while to get to that, but I've got most of the parts now too, so hopefully I'll be able to get it going again. I'll try to get pictures up soon!

I vote for the Super-Strat or the Rhoads with Alexi cut.

I made a Super-Strat and that thing has unlimited upper fret access. I just took the strat body design and cut the cutaways deeper. I almost cry when I play my old Kramer now because it has two less frets that are harder to reach. Even the Jems I've played don't have as good of access as mine (mine's a neck-thru by the way). I think that is the way to go. Best of luck, hope this helps at least a little.

Well yea, you can use it with either, but I'm putting the switch on so that if the battery runs out, I can flip the switch and still use the guitar without the Afterburner.

Xanthus, I'm not sure if the Afterburner needs the switch to take it out of the circuit. I wish my pickups weren't active on my other guitar so I could test it...

Active/Passive Switch (Takes Afterburner out of circuit)

I think that's about it. I'll get some progress pics up here once their loaded on my computer. Any suggestions or opinions would be great.

Ok, I'll probably decide to bind the fingerboard before attaching it to the neck. Sorry to disappoint you, but I've already built another guitar

I'm making an ML style guitar and want to bind the neck, headstock and body. How should I set up the neck so it's perfectly straight so I can use a pattern bit with the bearing on the end of the bit to cut the rabbet? I don't think hand planing it will get it totally straight and I don't want there to be a wave in the binding. Could I get a straight edge and use a pattern router bit with the bearing closer to the shaft to get the edge straight? Either that or use a jointer-planer for most of the length and use a hand plane the rest of the way. I'm not sure here. Please help. Thanks

Yea I was wondering if they made piezo saddles for a Floyd. I haven't really seen any but I'd be real interested. Anyone?

This thread has really caught my interest. I would also like to build an amp but don't know where to start really. I play mostly heavy metal but also classic rock kinda stuff. I was looking at a Marshall JCM800. I found the schematic and everything from the other thread about building an amp and it looks pretty cool. I'm just thinking about adding in an effects loop maybe...

Anyways, couldn't sb guitars here just build an amp he finds to his liking and throw in an effects loop for his effects? Wouldn't that be the way to go?

Thanks for the help guys. I guess the Flying V won't be happening yet, since I don't have the capabilities to resaw it here and it's way too soft. Maybe I'll do a Mahogony/Maple V eventually. Keep your eyes open for the ML once it's done, it should be pretty BA.

Well my Grandpa found two huge pieces of Redwood in his basement and gave them to me to use on a guitar. I'll try to get pics up soon if I can.

Experience-wise I've already finished a guitar - a solid maple Superstrat kinda thing, neck-thru, Recessed Floyd Rose, EMGs, that kind of thing - and I have already started my second guitar. The second one is going to be a solid maple Dean ML style guitar. It's going to have a more "fancy" appearance with binding and such.

I got this Redwood and since it could easily make a body I really want to make a V with it and it looks really nice. That's just my idea. I could've sworn there was like a Dean made out of Redwood. I could be wrong though. Thanks for the help and any more suggestions would be nice.

I've started building a Flying V style guitar. Set neck, redwood body, maple neck, ebony fretboard. I don't know what kind of finish would look good. I want to leave it natural maybe? Or do like a sunburst that would leave part of it natural. Any ideas? I think I'm going to put curly maple binding on the fretboard, headstock, and body, also. Thanks for the help.

Okay so I have a Crate FXT65 combo amp. It's 65 watts with one 12" speaker. Could I clip the wires going from the amp to the speaker and take out the whole "amp" assembly, then wire the output wires to a jack so I could use it as a head more or less instead of a combo? Would this be possible?

Yea I used Nitro and regular wood glue too, and I can now see most of the glue lines! I don't think its too big of a deal though... I hope not.

Yea that's really garbage how they're using his name to sell they're products. Dean might be sincere in honoring him they are releasing a lot of his stuff it seems, but hey who knows? But that guy at Bill Lawrence USA really doesn't seem to show any respect with that photoshopped pic and he just gets under my skin. Once again I'm sorry if I jumped down your throat there.

It's really quite simple. Buy a crappy off-brand guitar, throw a crappy off-brand pickup in there, plug it all into a crappy off-brand solid-state amp, and you're good to go! Oh, other than the 12 hours of practice everyday and the sheer skills you'll need to even come close...

That was possibly the most ignorant comment I've ever seen. I am 100% positive you couldn't get his tone ever.

Anyways, Dimebag used all three at different points. There are pictures with the billlawerence.com pickups in with the chrome shielding, he stated at a clinic he bought the pickups from Stew-Mac and the later guitars had Dimebuckers. He also supposedly used a "L-500XXL" which was more like a Dimebucker and then he started endorsing the Dimebucker.

I'm pretty sure that they are around 16k, as the Seymour Duncan Dimebag pickup I installed for a customer was around 16.1k, and it is only a slight variation from the XL500.

The L-500XL is about 11-13K I believe. The Dimebucker is a hotter pickup that those.
