i'm currently doing a material finish and i'm stuck rite now. i've done the front and back but i have no idea how to do the sides in such a way the the body (i have an rg body) is completely covered (including the contoured edges). i'm using a silver plastic gift wrapper as my material. any suggestions or ideas??

thanks for all the replies. they really helped. but just one more thing, is it 'safe' to leave about 5mm of the nut hanging (only 10mm will fit)...

i plan to do it like the first pic.. and the reason why i choose to use a locking nut is cuz i'll be changing the trem to a locking one too.. but anyways, back to main question.. how/what should i do to make the locking nut fit?

oh.. but my neck is fender-style one. any idea how i can fill the gap considering its curved? can i use some wood filler than sand it into shape or something? i'll be refinishing the guitar anyway.

so should i file down that area of the neck then place a shim there or what? could you pls explain a little more detail? also, would an ice cream stick work as a shim? thx.

I'm going to change my regular plastic nut to a locking one. problem is, the locking nut won't 'fit' because its 15mm. heres what i mean:

how about using both methods? like heat the fretboard with the iron and work with the heated spatula/paint scrapper? or will that be too risky cause of excessive heat to the neck?

1. how do you get a translucent inlay using superglue?

2. what can be used to fill the pearl dot inlays (after they've been removed) on rosewood fretboards so that it won't look obvious?

3. any suggestions on how to get a mirror looking inlay (any shape, really) that can light up with LEDs installed?

is it safe to leave the 9v battery connected 24/7 even i'm not using it for a prolonged period of time?

from what i've read, a material that can stretch freely is best for material finishing. and yes, you can use a shirt for the material.

how do you determine the trem route of an 'unknown' locking trem.

what is the value of the resistor that i'll need to connect an led directly to a 9v battery?

i plan to do a material finish using plastic wrapping paper and i have a few questions about white glue:

1. what is the average 'life span' of white glue (is it permanant)?

2. can white glue be used to glue the material directly onto the body that still has paint on it?

3. which is better? white glue vs epoxy vs wood glue for this material finish?

i tried out that glass cutting method. you certainly CAN cut the glass. however, you can't but it in straight lines. it kinda cut in random directions. so i guess that method's not one that useful...

I've got a question too. can i just paste the material over an already finished body with epoxy? what long term negative effects will it have?

i'm wondering.. is it the same with mirrors? as in just heat it up, dip it in water and start cutting it..??

What should i use to cut a thin piece (about 2mm) of glass? and what should i do the edges so that it won't be sharp? also, is wearing some sort of mask necessary to keep from breathing in 'glass dust'?

From what i read, i gather that chroming a guitar, whether through literal chrome or some chrome-looking spray just isn't going to work, right? So then the other alternative mentioned is using silver mylar foil.. about that.. how do you cover up the contoured edges of the body while maintaining an even spread of the foil?

I have a few questions about chroming a guitar:

1. can I just take it to a car shop and have it done there?

2. does a chrome finish have to be sanded smooth and clear coated?

3. does the wood have to be sealed before chroming it?

4. what should i use to mask off parts that i don't want chromed (eg. neck pocket) ?

5. what are the negative effects of chroming a guitar in terms of playability, weight, sound , etc etc?

$40..?? thatz a little expensive.. any other cheaper methods..??
