  1. don't scrap them :] keep going until you're proud of it and wanna keep it forever...

on a side note, im building a mirrored guitar too. Its alittle trickier than what you did, because its an SG with flat sides. I've ended up routing an SG shape into the flat top, and created a template for the mirror acrylic with that, so the mirror is flush to the wood.

on a second side note, someone earlier said that they would like a textured mirror finish, before realising it was just the ceiling being reflected. that kind of texture can be made really easily; brush a thin layer of paint thinners over the back of the acrylic, and the miriror will start to bubble. Once its bubbled enough for your taste, get read with a shower and use a weak jet to wash away the thinners - voilla!

    good luck :]

  2. Hi all,

I study physics, and so have covered magnetism, but I've a question or two about sustainers. I'm currently preparing to wire my first ever home made guitar.

I've put a BareKnuckle Nailbomb in the bridge, and have bought a Fernandes FSK-101 for the neck. The guitar (an SG) is a natural finish with a clear varnish, and a custom designed mirror-backed perspex scratchplate.

To go with the chromey finish of the guitar, I'd like to put a chrome/nickel coverplate over the Sustainer driver. Would this shield the strings from the field produced by the driver at all (and so reduce the drivers efficiency)? Would I also need to ground the cover, as a magnetic field moving relative to a current-carrying conducter = current?

Just a question for the experts :], thanks alot...

  3. Hi there,

First post, as I was just looking for something formyself, but surely there is a simple solution to this problem; there are lots of tutorials on how to make pickups, so why don't you get your single coil and put a 'fake'single coil next to it. This way, on the surface it looks like a humbucker, whereas in reality it is just a single coil with a fake "other half" of the humbucker next to it.

    Regards,
