I dont think its a good idea to do that , i have seen guitars with the grain running (not completely perpendicular) but somewhat and built some of my own like that.> and yes usaf1989 burl (grain going everywhere) but does it sound GOOD???? (thats up to you) anyway take a square piece of wood about oh .100 thick 4" square (and break it with your hands) in both grain directions (whats easier) get what im saying (now put that under average 150 lbs of string pressure) say over a 10 year span. So usaf1989 saying QUOTE:String tension acting across the grain vs. with the grain shouldn't be a huge deal, either. is not good advice. (im not trying to bash anyone) but being a cabinet maker and instrument maker are Two worlds apart. Fryovanni and Setch have very good reasons NOT!! to do it too!!
(I miss burl ives)

Yeah what you'd probably do is apply the shellac and go over it (once it's completely dry and not gummy) with 220 wet/dry sand paper (making sure you don't go completely through). You'd probably still have "shiny spots" which are basically dips in the shellac that the sandpaper couldn't reach. Then you'd apply some more shellac and sand it and repeat until there are no more "shiny spots". You should probably then go over it with 320 grit. That's what I'd do to dewax it.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
dont get what wak,s trying to say here
-
the behlen's blonde shellac that you talked about is dewaxed i checked
-
-
it has to be dewaxed shellac and you can use it as a base and then the zpoxy >make sure you sand the shellac before applying the zpoxy it will adhere just fine. Or just do it the way you wanted but beware it will sink a little.
-
well with the stew mac grain filler ya may get a little sinking of the filler with it and ktm9(something you don't want) i would use(and have for some customers)zpoxy finishing resin (i think ya can get it from lmi) wont sink at all with ktm9

Ok im back sorry had a lot of guitar repairs > anyway i had promised a pic of the rough carve of the neck and i have a pic of my logo (cnc cut) the logo has a .017 inside ring of cocobolo (matching the pickup rings)and a .035 outside ring of the western curly maple(matching the binding) you can see the rough carved neck with the volute(i will finish this tonight and post another pic of it completed) still no word on what the cust wants for fretboard inlay? you know how that goes
-
Nice keep at it let us all know how it sounds when your done also

with a tune-o-matic it compensates for sharpness(a hipshot Contour should be installed straight up as the manufacture recommends) dont install it like a tune-o-matic(asking for trouble there)
