  1. hi, just wondering how well does a body stained with oil-based stain/dye accept a nitro clear finish? also, what about water-based stain with nitro? thanks in advance. :D

Im still in process with mine but I did exactly that...stained it with oil base. Next I did 4 coats of sealer and then started the Nitro. I was told the sealer would seperate the nitro and stain. Looks good so far.

  2. Just started to sand the sealer. Two questions: I got it to feel smooth but I can see brush marks. Do I need to sand those down or will the clear take care of that? The brush marks are hazey as is the whole thing but they are worse.

Also, I havent grain filled because I may have got some bad advice that If i did 20-30 coats of nitro I wouldnt need to. I know understand that in the long term the grain will be a problem. Do I have any alternatives for a mirror finish?

    Thanks

  3. How about a picture of what you need?

Sorry, I realized I wasnt very clear. Ok...I have a two point tremolo off a classic player fender strat. There are two points wich mount into the body (hight adjustment screws) and hold the bridge in place. I have those screws. what I do not have are the female threaded sleeves wich you would incert into the body to accept the male. It looks like this:

accept this particular one is for an ibanez.

As i said...i have the screws but need the other part. Thanks.

  4. I need the female threaded part of the two point fender classic players bridge system but I cannot seem to find them without buying the whole assembly. Anybody know where I can get this? I already have the screws but I would purchase them again if they came with the female parts. Also, what do I call this? Hight adjustment screw assembly?

  5. That'll be sealer - what finish are you considering using (first of all)?

I am unsure. Just know that I want the wood to show. Vintage clear from reranc was a possibility. I havent researched ahead enought to know if I want laquer or something else. I suppose if one is easier than another, I'd strongly consider that.

So just in case someone knows...is there any product that will strip the sealer or am i condemned to sanded the thing down?

  7. So I am about ready to start the finishing process on first project. I am a newbie for sure and I appreciate you indulging my sometimes dense questions. Here is todays dumb quesion:

I have been looking for tutorials on finishing in natural (clear lacquer). I jsut want to be sure the process is the same:

    Grain fill

    sand 320

    Grain filler

    sand 320

followed by sander sealer and sand 320 X4

Next I can begin to put the clear nitro on right?

If anyone has done this before and thinks of a better way to show the natural wood let me know.

    Thanks in advance

  8. Just on the off chance someone has an extra neck they'd like to sell. I am being picky about it though...

If you have a neck with:

    Compound radius

preffered fat or clapton or boat (I want 1in at neck)

    strat compatable

    finished or unfinished

    any inlay

preferrable maple but rosewood or other will do

in good shape needing little to no fretwork

    used okay

Than I am the guy for you to sell too. If it is a warmoth by chance than I will pee myself! But in any case you can email me b_rocki21@yahoo.com

Also looking for licensed fender locking tuners. Any style with or without logo.

    Thanks all.

  10. Just stripped my first guitar. I thought I was down to the wood grain but I noticed a thin layer of some sort of clear stuff. Question: Is this the grain filler? Do I need to remove it to finish it natural? Also, Can I simply apply another coat to fill in the divots and scratches from sanding (few and very minor)

Any help would be appreciated. This forum is awesome for a newbie like me.

    Thanks

  11. Hi,

I am working with what I believe is a Korean made strat body (Squire?) But I want some things like a custom neck and some american parts. I am so confused. Can I use aftermarket parts on this guitar? Will an american standard trem work if there are no holes drilled yet? Pick guard not drilled either. All this guitar is is a painted body routed for trem and the pickups/electronics. What do you think I should do?

Any feedback would be great. thanks.

  12. Hello,

First time on the forum. I have been planning a guitar project for some time. I have taken apart and rebuilt guitars but never bought a body and started from scratch. I am very excited.

My dilemma, I only have so much cash I can justify not spending on my wife and kid and mortgage etc. I want to buy a Strat body to either strip and refinish one that is unfinished. I want to go more reasonable than say warmoth because I want to spend my precious money on the neck, Pick-ups and bridge.

But e-bay guitar stores seem hit and miss. In fact, some of them are down right slimey in correspondance.

Im hoping someone out there has had a good experience buying from an ebay seller and can recomend me to someone. Maybe recomend people to avoid!

At any rate, I love the forum since i found it last week and I will no doubt be picking your brains. Letcha know how I am doing.
