The amp is a solid state Kustom 100w. It doesn't provide any noise to my EC strat, but that has lace sensors. This new striat has the more noisy 57/62 singles. Are there any tutorials on how to sheild the cavity? I have made this strat myself and Am still learning all the ropes... but hey its an experience right?

yeah, I even pulled the cover off and resoldered that connection. I also put it in a couple of other places on the claw and same problem.

I know there are many topics on buzzing etc but I couldn't find an answer to my question so I shall ask here.

I have a nasty buzz through my strat when plugged in. As soon as I touch the strings or the bridge the buzz dissapears. Three single coils, a tone and a 9 volt Active boost. Everything is wired correctly (as far as I can tell) the Jack is deffinately wired correctly. 57/62 fender single coils.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I generally use whatever I cut off the ends of the pickup wires if they are new. Saves alot of searching around "I know I had that wire somewhere..." Just cut some off and use it.

will trial and error do much damage to anything?

Also I mucked up before, it goes 12300123

I think from looking around the net the hot pickup wires go to the 1 2 and 3 and I think the volume comes from the 0 Don't know what the 0123 is for thoguh. Maybe tone?

I've worked with electronics a fair bit, but when it came to making my own guitar I wanted to make damn sure of myself before I messed with anything. I just bought a new switch, and with only ever playing with older switches I'm a bit confused about what I should wire where. It has 8 solder points sticking out of it labelled "32100123" so what I want to know is in this wiring diagram

which number should I put the neck, middle and bridge pickup and which number should have the wire to the volume pot coming out of it for a normal 5way switch configuration?

I know its fairly vague but any help would be greatly appreciated.

After my last exam on friday I will have all the time in the world to sand it back to bare wood Until then I shall have to start working on either Medicinal Chemistry or Soldering the electrics together... I know which one I'm gonna end up doing... and it doesn't involve any drug names

so how do i fix this? Strip back and start again?

sorry. The wood is an ash. I was sanding the old fashioned way, by hand, and thought I had sanded properly. The body currently has a few layers of primer on it and a layer of black enamel paint on it (ok I know I'm being cheap). The problem lies in the fact that the paint is going into the grain marks and leaving it looking black with dips in the grain.

You'll have to forgive me, I have no doubt this topic has been covered before but I have had a look and can't find anything.

Here is the problem. I'm a complete noob at this stuff and thought I had sanded my body right down. Problem being when I applied the first few layers of primer I noticed some of the ruts in the grain coming though where I obviously hadn't sanded enough. No problem I thought as I continued. After quite a few layers of black paint It wont show and I can sand it out. Wrong the ruts are lower than the orriginal primer in some places so i have sanded back through to the primer with little black ruts. Anyway of filling this straight over the top of the paint and then starting fresh over that? I don't even know what to use to do this. Help would be muchly appreciated.

I want to get a gloss black finish on my guitar, like a kind of blackie Eric clapton strat type black. I'm using rattle can spray paint for it. Should I put a matt, satin or gloss black as the black underneath the clear coat? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One other quick question. There is one spot where after putting the primer on the guitar I have realised that I didn't quite sand the grain back enough and it has created some pits in the primer where I'm having trouble sanding it back. Will this show up after them many many coats of black and clear paint I put on or should I sand that entire section back to wood and start again?
