  1. i've bought a preslotted fingerboard for a les paul that i want to make from stewmac.

well, the fingerboard is radiused 12''

is there a problem inlaying it?

what i have exactly to do to make the inlays radiused?

what kind of wood was it? and can someone clear up for me how exactly you measure a neck radius or what it is? I know what a radius is in terms of a circle and such so I assume you would look at the neck as being a half-circle, but that can't be right..

    clarification please?

  2. Yeah I've been reading all the topics about neon lights, I just thought they might have some weird effect on the pickups if they're that close to them...

Hmm trasparent pickguard...what material could I layer the wood with that would really reflect the light, anything you guys can think of, if you know what im talking about?

  3. i think your talkin about a Monkey Grip, but, why dont you come up with somethin yourself? then its entirely orignal, besides, you never know when some manufacturer will see your guitar and then offer you thousands and thousands of dollars to use your idea!!

    Curtis

Er yeah sorry I have come up with an idea for myself I was just wondering what other people have thought of. One thing I thought of was putting a mirror in the back side, then an acrylic front, and maybe put a neon light in it or something. Im really hung up on lights right now :D

  4. I have bought several from them. If you buy ebony, expect a bit of brown. The slots are excellent and the radiusing of the board is very good/clean. Are you planning on buying the fretwire from them also?

Yes because I don't know if it's a sales gimmick or what but it says "ready to accept our fretwire" and I'd just feel safest if I used their fretwire too. I haven't resaerched sizes yet, I looked in their catalog and saw High and Wide is used in Jackson's and Ibanez's so I might go for Wide and Medium-High or so, haven't researched it much though. Reccomendations?

  5. Ok please tell me what would go wrong with this idea, im sure theres some frequency problem with pickups and magnetic fields or something. If I was to make an acrylic or just a thin piece of plastic as a pickguard, and then where my routed cavities were, an led or would be shining into the open routed area (the end of the LED would be flush with the routed area, not sticking out)

anyone ever tried this/what's wrong with it etc?

  6. Well I dont want to buy fretting tools (by fretting tools I mean a fret cutter :D) because I want to save up for a floyd rose. Has anyone ever bought a precut fingerboard from Stewmac or any website or store and how did it turn out? Are the slots accurate? this is my first guitar, would you reccomend I cut the slots myself, or does it take out of the guitar making experience buying the fingerboard precut or what?

  7. Although Im going to use my Gibson LP's bridge 'bucker placement for my new gutiar, I highly disagree with listening to the sound of a bridge pickup on different giutars, pick the one you like, and use that. There's so many more deciding factors (like people have pointed out) wood types, neck types, strings, other hardware etc. Just too inaccurate, you'd probably end up dissapointed. Maybe not in some cases though.

Anyways just ordered my bit from stewmac so i route in a couple days..

  8. Question.... my pattern bit has a ball bearing on the top (that picture is gone so i cant see them really) well my bit is about an inch long...how is the ball bearing supposed to ride along the template edge if it's 3/4" away from the template because of the bit?

oh great it's too long of a bit. Screw Home Depot and their "smart" employees im just gonna order stewmac's bit.

  9. Erm another question about grounding....If my buddies mexican tele is buzzing very loud just when unplayed (its not just Singlecoil buzz, it's very loud, and it doesnt change when you turn in circles etc, like singlecoils do) is THAT a grounding issue? or is it just a bad wire or what?

  10. Yeah I have some stewmac templates

How do you get an old bit out of a router?

looks like there's two wrenches that came with it that I do not have, and I see the area where the bit is inserted can be held with one wrench and then there's a nut type of thing outside of that. But It wont come undone, might just be too old and rusty er something. Any tips/help?
