  1. Having a sustainer concept in a bridge could be cool but that goes against one of the spec points of having little or no instrument modification. i wouldn't mind having the sustainer fitted to my guitar and drill a hole through to the cavity for the corcuitry etc, but I wouldn't want to replace my bridge. Could the sustainer go just below the neck pickup or would interference occurr?

  2. I've been searching around for amps a little more and have come up with more amps that are within my price range. I was just wanting to know what people's opinions and comments about them are. The amps are:

    Laney Tube Fusion models

    Laney TFX models

They are not valve amps and they are not solid state. They are a hybrid of both. There is a valve pre-amp and the final output is solid state. What do people think of these. Since they are both valve and solid state does this mean a 65w would do me, or because of the solid stateness would I need 100w or something around there? Thanks for any comments.

  3. LOL, if you keep at it I wouldn't mind betting you'll come up with the holy grail of the guitar world :D .

A while ago you asked for people's input into what they would like out of a sustainer. These points have probably been mentioned but I will metion them again. A dream sustainer for me would have all the features of the Fernandes Sustainer (as in normal sustain, harmonic sustain mode and mix sustain mode with all the pots for adjustments etc). Although, it would be small and discreet so that I wouldn't have to sacrifice my neck pickup to install it (i'm using a Rio Grande Punchbox so I think you can see why I wouldn't want to replace it). It would also not interfere with the bridge and neck pickups, maybe fit near the bridge like the Roland GK-2A MIDI pickup does.

Is what I have described above actually physically possible?

  4. if you send a pic to me (make sure it is a .jpg and smallish) to blinx_biohazard@hotmail.com and i'll take a look at it and email it back to you with notes etc if I can spot it, also a link to the wiring diagram you used would be good.

  5. What sized file will I need. Is this easy to do, I've done no work on guitar at all before other than wiring my guitar. My guitar builder said that the worst case senario for putting a .56 to .60 string in place of the .46 is that I will crack the nut, so I will need to make the slot slightly bigger.. Also how would I know when i've filled away enough? Will this then mean I can't put a .46 string in the future? Thanks.

  6. Hey guys, just a quick simple question for you (I hope). When I had my guitar built for me, the builder cut the string nut slots for gauge 10 strings. That is fine, but I am wanting to experiment with some Drop C, B, A etc bottom string tuning so will try a .56 bottom string. My question is, will I be able to do this with the bottom string nut slot cut to fit the standard gauge 10 bottom string which is .46? Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

  7. For the electronics, if you have pickups and pickup screws, the rest that comes to mind is:

    soldering iron

    wire stripplers

    that electricians tape stuff

    wire

solder (although there is a certain type recommended, cant remember what it is)

pots (500K recommended for humbucker, 2 of them one volume and one tone usually)

5 or 3 way selector switch for selecting the pickups

    nuts and washers

    knobs for the pots

screws for the pickup switch (if its a 5 way, if 3 way then i think its just nuts and washers again)

    output jack socket

    output jack plate with screws

    pickguard of rear cavity cover

conductive paint or foil to shield the cavity areas

i think thats most things you'll need, some other people may be able to suggest more things. Hope that helps.

  8. Sorry to almost cause an argument between you both. Thanks for the advice from both of you, it means a lot to me and hopefully will lead me to my eventual goal of recording some ideas and getting the experience needed for this university course. Thanks.
