I hate mockingbirds, but yours i would seriously love to own.

Your guitars are an inspiration, i want to jump in and start making now.

I am planning and researching my first guitar. For the first one im going to buy parts from warmoth, customise finish etc, whatever i want to do.

Can inlays be done with frets already installed. Also for inlay work, what tools are needed.

They dont really have what im after.

I intend to undertake my first guitar project by ordering parts off warmoth and modifying them to how i want them. Have a few questions

- Are the warmoth parts of good quality?

- The neck heel seems really fat to me is it bad and hinders playing?

- The intended guitar will be a 7string, does the body need to be bigger or its just routing for the neck pocket and trem?

- Finishing, what sort of tools are needed?

Yer i just ( like 30 minutes ago ) got a nice ryobi plunge router, 80 bucks, havnt tested it yet. Fkn they didnt have 1/8' roundover bits it was all 1/4 and they were like 50 bucks each! I had no idea.

Ta, what size should the standard bit be 1/4' ?

1. I am going to go buy a couple of mahogony pieces, i also need a router. I only want a simple get-the-job-done router nothing expensive or fancy but seeing as i am a bit of a hardware newbcake just wondering if there is a specific type of router that i should get.

2. Also what rout bits will i need to get, i also want a rounding bit for the edges of the guitar ( explorer ), is there a specific size that works best.

3. What wood and what thickness should i grab to construct a template for pickup and neck pocket cavities.

I found an application that converts a cad file into bmp. Sent it off to snap printing should be ready for me tomorrow then i can purchase my wood.

There are no dimensions on it =\ . . .

but i want to get this printed at a snap store ( they do business printing etc ) but they do not print *dwg cad files, i need a tool that can convert a dwg into a picture file, tga, jpg or even a pdf file, its A0 in size and i want to print it out in full.

The CAD file i downloaded off one of the guitar building sites had a CAD drawing of the explorer but its only a general outline and does not have dimensions and measurements on it.

Sorry to be a bitch but does anyone have specific measurements for an explorer body, or just how big would my block of wood need to be just for the body.

Fair enough, also i was thinking if i do a set neck, but i screw up as in the neck is not the feel i want i am basically screwed, but if it is a bolt on i can just take it off and make a new neck?

Hi, i am considering undertaking building my first guitar. I would prefer it to be a set neck but my question is, would it be wise to start off designing a bolt on neck guitar considering it will be my first attempt?
