  1. Wes, off topic, but given you paid the $1200 for the Les Paul Studio, you hadn't ever considered trying out something like this had you?

    http://www.music123.com/ESP-Eclipse-II-i113797.music

I'm not necessarily suggesting it, as I have only played one a tiny bit... I am more interested in your opinion of it, especially because it comes standard with (close to) your normal pickup configuration.

I am looking at a new guitar, and looking at spending ~$1000USD has just made me think that Carvin or ESP/LTD or Schecter would be such a better choice than Gibson?

  2. You can see Perry is getting excited about this bad boy! Metal through and through baby

By the way he was being serious about the GOTM warning... if you dont vote for this thing then I don't think we can be held responsible for what will happen to you. Camo has been constantly beaten down by Perry in his workshop, and he is well and truly ready to break out and kick some tail :D

I am expecting Perry's friend Graham to grind out a seriously punishing demo track for my camo... I want to be assaulted :D

  3. second, not first. My first already won GOTM (actually, the very first GOTM where we all got to vote).

But yeah, good stuff, they all look hot.

Wait until next month.... ive got the hot one coming. Its getting its armour this week :D

Damn right next month! Cause if its not then the seas will rise... fire will rain from the sky and the very ground we walk on will OPEN UP AS THE FURY OF ALL HELL SPEWS FORTH AND DESTROYS LIFE AS WE KNOW IT!

    ...and thats just the beginning.

    :D

  4. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I get EMG's from the states for $99USD, which equates to £55, and Duncans are $70-80USD, which comes to around £45.

I get the point you are trying to make, and if was allowing myself to be ripped off bigtime by getting seymour duncans or EMG's from the local shops here in Australia, THEN it would be economical to check out BKP... but while I can get Seymour Duncans and EMG's for half the price of BKP, I personally couldn't bring myself to make the switch :D

  5. Do you mean that Hetfield is using a 60 in the bridge now Wes? Cause I know originally when he started using EMG's it was 81/60, then I noticed some of his guitars had 81/81... what are you meaning he has now?

Anyway, I would definitely just stick with the 81 in the bridge like Wes suggested Curtis. For metal it kicks serious ass... coming from a guitar I have here with middle of the range pickups in it, pinch harmonics are ridiculously easy all over the fretboard... I mean, I was fine with them before on my other guitars, but EMG's just make it easier :D Its also tight and punishing under high gain.

If you want to experiment, try the 60 in the neck. Its still smooth enough to handle lead work, but you might be able to do something cool with the extra bite, who knows? I really did love the clean sound from it. Otherwise, once you have them installed its a peice of cake to switch them out, so regardless of which one you choose, you can always get the other and just swap it out.

  6. OK check out  www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk

these sound better than anything else out there and he's a fast growing hand-wound company.  I have  aMiracle Man that pisses all over my EMG ZW set in terms of tone and harmonics (pinch harmonics are awesome!!!) and cos its passive it splits well.

    Or

Go for the Warpig, this has more output than an 81 but sounds so good that by winding back the volume it cleans up great!!  this is because it uses an Alnico magnet and all are scatter wound, apparently French jazz players love them so they must be able to clean up well as well as splitting very well.  I strongly reccomend them and if you talk to Tim the guy and al of the BKP staff, then they can point you in the right direction.

I'll just add a quick sidenote to that:

    1x Miracle Man Humbucker = ~$180USD + Delivery

If anyone here has played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas...

"we've put a price on salvation, and beleive me, its a price worth paying"

  7. I would get a Tokai before I got one of those Agiles, mainly because I have played some Tokai Love Rock's that were very very nice. I am by no means an expert, however I think there is better models of Tokai copies than the one in the link I posted above, and I was probably playing a better one. The one I played had a mahogany body and neck and a genuine carved maple cap - it was still significantly cheaper than a Gibson though... it wasnt too much more than a decent Epiphone, and would have been worth every cent more.

  8. Hmm, very interesting, the spec page just says the body is "solid" it doesnt say what wood it is made of.....

anywho, i just got back from playin it, after playin around with trying to get close to "randy's" tone, my tone went from good to really good, so i am very pleased with myself :D

What would be a good combination of EMG's?? i was thinking 81/85 since i know alot of people on here use that combo...

    Curtis

The 81/85 combo is a pretty safe bet, but I guess it really depends a bit on what you want. The 81 in the bridge is basically a no-brainer, however the neck position is open to a bit of mucking around. My experience here is limited compared to someone like Wes, but I've found that the 85 in the neck is quite round and fat, good for lead work, whereas the 60 on the other hand is a lot more punchy, and while still rounds off in the neck position to some degree for warmer lead stuff, the punchyness also helps make for some nice clean tones that almost have a snappy piezo type feel as well when in the neck position. Thats in my opinion anyway.

  9. Though I'm tempted to go for the Gotoh vintage style lockers for my strat n' tele...

I got a set of those for my strat, and I will be changing them out next time I do some work on it. I don't know if I just got a bad set, but they are the polar opposite of 'smooth'. There is nothing subtle about their operation, making it a real pain to fine tune with them. If all the sets are like mine, then I would definitely keep walking im afraid :D

On topic, PLEASE Matt don't get those steinberger gearless tuners! Sure they 'reduce' clutter by getting rid of the knobs, but god! they are so chunky in areas where I personally am not used to seeing chunk. I think they are hideous B) Godin SD's guitar only cemented that for me... no offense to Godin, it was a cool guitar, but those black gearless tuners just... ugh!

    :D

  10. I've been looking around in this area for ages... my budget extends to include the Marshall DSL and TSL combo's, but as of yet I still haven't actually decided on which one to get.

The best thing I have tried by far yet was a Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier head with a 2x12 Mesa Horizontal cabinet... not a combo I know, but it had the best sound for me. Compared with the Marshall TSL602, the marshall just seemed to get a bit... almost fuzzy in the really high gain areas, where the mesa held together a bit better. Im probably being really picky, but hey, I figure if im going to sink that much cash into an amp I am allowed to be right? :D Of course it goes without saying the Mesa is significantly more expensive than the Marshall.

The Genz-Benz combo's were really nice too, but didnt saturate quite as much as the mesa or the marshall.

I can't say I had ever heard a Crate Blue Voodoo first hand though...

  11. The general premise of the whole nu-metal thing was that solo's went out the window... so how you can chuck a nu-metal label on a song thats just one big solo I have no idea :D

I also think the reverb needs to come down a smidge to clean things up a bit, but besides that it's pretty cool! Not entirely my sort of thing, but cool nonetheless.
