hi all!
just bought myself a new guitar. i had an ibanez gax 70 in flame red previously which was ok, didnt have any complaints but i wanted to do more. so i've gone out and bought a Gould sg-based guitar. usually i dont like the sg but this one is a beauty! all white with gold hardware and a busby whammy bar. an all in one neck/body, bot a bolt on, and a nice 'under and over' bridge.
now. i've bought it with modifying it in mind - here's what i want doing to it - the scratch plate needs painting metallic purple, the pickups i'm changing for (hums) neck - kent armstrong paf and bridge - dimarzio super distortion cream.
im considering grover locking tuning heads.
but the biggy, i need a new switching system; obviously ill want coil taps but im also looking for 'in/out phase' which i dont know anything about except brian may uses them and so i want them!
so, the scratch plate - how do i do this myself? (out of curiosity, how would i put a design in the top corner of my guitar without ruining the finish?)
the pick ups, am i liable to be able to do this myself? how?
the switching system im paying someone to do. tuning heads im sure i can do.
any help is appreciated, cheers!

ahhhh!! makes sense now!
i dont know the setup simply because the one i have now is h - h but im selling it in a few days and i dont know what ill get in replace of it.
these dimarzios, how available are they? could i get them second hand?

finally a reply! cheers mate!
the pickups brian has endorsed are made by burns which are pretty much the same thing as k armstrongs.
as far as my set up goes i havent a clue what you mean! ive played for years now but i dont know many if any other guitarists, most of what i know tends not to be technical stuff.
but the pickups are definately sigles i know that much. but the ones on the guild are more than likely going to be out of my price range and i need ready availability in the uk

ok, so i want to put kent-armstrong tri sonic v's on my guitar, except im told its hard to get them in the uk, and even harder to get second hand. so i need a suitable substitute.
the sound im after is smooth at the lower end but with distortion and reverb on i want it to really scream you know? im trying to kinda get a similar sound to brian may but not quite. any suggestions cos all i hear about on the net really are seymour duncans

thanks guys, youve been really helpful, more than i expected, cheers!

what im after ultimately is (i dont know the site but search under the guys name and it shoudl come up) something like the rick andrews patented thingy jig; ultimate tone control over all pick ups. but i want it to be cheap and i want to fit it myself, the personal touch you know!?!
basically i want the higher notes to really squeal and i want the lower notes smooth and creamy, but i dont like using pedals.
to further complicate things, i dont actually know what guitar im going to end up butchering to do this; im selling my current one, but i dont know what i want to get - i havent yet played a guitar that satisfies me, none of them make me wanna play them. ive designed my own from scratch but i cant make it and cant afford for it to be made but thats life i guess

so ive decided to either mod my guitar or gut an old one and re build the electronics. unfortunately ive decided i want to use part off an old stereo among other things like a graphic EQ problem is i dont have any knowledge on electrics whatsoever - i might just about be able to get away with fitting pickups but i hvaent a clue where to start when it comes to adding or modifying tone control
any help?
my new baby
