  1. Hi,

I am in the process of building a 4 string bass, Fender jazz style.

I am using 2 EMG's Jazz model active.

Do not have a clue of the precise pickup position placing ( I usually work with Bartolini Hum, musicman model )

Does anybody know the distance of the pickups from the nut or from the bridge saddle , on a 34 " scale.

    Regards

    Rob

  2. I just needed a confirm that the method was good enough, I usually use mounting rings for my hums.

I bought 2 plastic 7 string mounting rings, but really don't like them....I use always metal ones and plastic makes it look a bit cheap in my opinion, so that is the reason I am trying this method, will post pics soon.

I never even played a 7 string, so I really don't know much about them, I love that deep violent riff tone they give!

Thanks for your help guys :D

  3. Thanks for the replyes, it will probably not work well with the original screws, it will be direct mounting. I think I'll need to drill a bigger hole in the pickup wings ( that is what I call the two staffs that have the screw holes ) and use a wood screws, not the original ones. like when installing J model pickups on a bass guitar.

  4. Hi,

I am making a 7 string, and decided to install the 2 humbuckers without the pickup rings.

What screws should I use since the regular ones will not grip much in the bare wood....should I just force some slim wood screws in the pickup holes, and directly in the body of the guitar?

    Thanks for looking

  5. Good job !

I like unfinished necks too , I just treat them with many coats of oil , in the beginning, and after that, just plain furniture wax, once a wile.

I love the feel of it, and for now never had issues of stability.

Do you have a design with specs of the body, I am really looking forward in making one ( I love Nuno's guitars and playing ).

  6. I sold 4 projects.

2 Custom design to customers , that know me from years.

2 RG copy bodies for a friend of mine.

I really did not make that much money, covered hardware, woods, and expenses....with the extra money I was able to by some smaller tools and woods for more guitars.

But I am satisfied and they are too, and that is the best reward since I am not a PRO.

People tell me to put them on Ebay...... well I think it's something delicate to buy a custom made guitar from someone you don't know, without being able to play it and check it in person.

  7. I bought a wile ago a Morley Bad Horsie wha, was working fine for a wile, but lately , after a long time without it in my setup, It gives a terrible hum (really loud with distortion engaged).

I think it's something related to shielding in the pedal, I tried it with a good stabilezed power adapter with no good result.

Anybody got any suggestions before I throw it out the window

    Thanks for reading

  8. I had a really hard time finding them in EU , and quite expensive the Ibanez ones, so I got a 7 string Floyd rose TRS from "guitar parts depot" for something like 170 $ that would be like 110 E (i think averagly).

I live in Italy but always buy from US, It's way more convenient in price ( even with the shipping fee ), and way lots more choise of products.

I know they look better and probably have better performance level rather than a TRS , but why want to spend more than double !

  9. The guitar body and neck are both finished with oil and wax

I really don't know what the kind of oil would be called in US .....here in Italy it's called olio PAGLIERINO ( it's quite a thick oil, I used the red colored one, I have even a yellow oil bottle that I use for wenge or other woods I don't want to darken too much ).

I applyed 5 coats of oil (2 a day), It takes a wile to absord , motly the last few coats.

After that I rubber about 3 to 4 coats of furniture wax.

The result is really cool, I love the smooth feel of it, I used to use shellac on the other projects, but I think I will go on with this method on future projects, even if it needs extra attention for scratches.

I really love the wax scent even :D

    Thanks for appriciating my work

32251 - the neck was an extra from the blank used on the bass I made last year, I did not want to waste the wood, so I gave it a try, the neck is very stiff, and I find that fir finishes really nice

  10. Thanks for the nice comments .

Lee - that neck did not move at all , i set a heavy gauge of strings ( 0.50 -0.11 ), about 10 days ago, laminate is very steady. Same as in my 4 string

bass on the site, it's the siamese twin neck, and worked really well for both!

Douglas finishes very smooth, all the guitar is finished in oil and wax

kiko - I love both pickups , with clean and coil splitting ( 5 way switch ), the tone zone at bridge is to bright for clean sound playing ( for my taste), with distortion they all rock !

But it's my first TZ experience, and I sounds cool on mohogany :D

  11. Nice work !

Necks that fall ....yeah I know something about that !

I have been making so many mistakes lately ( stress, always rushing things ), anyway don't feel bad , I mesured 3 times a scale lenght on the body of a RG replica, routed all the Floyd rose cavity, and after a clean work, I reilaized that I am shot of 1 cm from the scale lenght ! Murphy is laughing !

    Keep updating pics ;-)
