  1. oookay so this is a strat with a tad bit wider neck (closer to a clasical guitar) now what you shoyld now is that this is not only my first atemtp at making a guitar it is also my first ever attempt at woodworking ever... well unless you count with a hatchet, but nothing too personal also added on im only 14 (13 when i started it ) and id say its atleast ok I test fited parts from my other guitar so i know that the pickguard covers up any routing mistakes (100% freehand = bad idea) Btw the mody is alder the neck maple and the fingerboard is zebrawood with 3 coats of shelac the frets are glued in since i didnt have the thin saws so the cut was too wide, seems to hold though
  2. thank you that was enlightening since im not that knowlegable on gibsons
  3. theres like 5 on ebay right now... or was that 2 well it looks strange like that one in the link looks like it has a one bolt neck atachment. well i need like specs for hardware and scale length and whatnot. but this is way on the future list after the guitar m working on now ( a wide necked strat) and maybe a bass but its stll good to have some info
  4. Anyone have specs on the gibson moderne it was originnally prototyped wiht the flying v's in the 50's but rumor has it they never even made a prototype, but then gibson made some reisues in the 80's it looks kinda like a flying v exceptits rounded at the bottom so its easier to play sitting wait, a pictures woirth a thousand words so http://www.garysguitars.com/product_pics/207c.jpg
  5. kinda jazzy sound with a stronger lower end than the higher end
  6. i play classical and from what i have and heard id say the yamahas have very good entry level guitars. look for several things. first off try every fret on the fretboard and all the strings and see if theres any buzz. play all the strings seperately and see if any string sounds dull or quiet. soi thats what basically comes to mind
  7. This is my first attempt at building a guitar and its well on its way I want it to be (already routed for) an hss pickup configuration. and im thinking about getting the pearly gates since they have f string spacing and since the guitar im making has a wider string spread at the nut. so what im wondering is if its worth getting and any feedback/reviews would be nice
  8. loooks waay over done but the yellow submarine bass is the best! probably akward to play sitting or standing though, but i bet it was ment to be a piece of art and not playable
  9. my body is 1.75" so maybe 1 3/8" for the control and maybe 6/8 for the pickups
  10. Ok so my body is cut out and the neck cut out, but i have no idea how deep to route the pickup cavity and the control cavity the body is like your standard strat
  11. im going to use a standard bridge because the bridge for the classsical guitar im using the neck widths for is also 2 1/2in just like a standard guitar brid also the electronic ruler im usiong to measure the spacings between the frets ionly goes out to hundreth of mm but the fret distances go out to the 1000th will it affect anything if i round the numbers
  12. Ah thanks thats what i thought. And should i be woried about the curve from the nut to the tuners , what do you recomend for tuner placement with a thicker nut
  13. Well im thinking of building a version of the strat with h/s/s pickups. Im thinking of making the neck closer to a classical guitar which is a lot wider. i measured out the spread and it came to 41.8 mm and a 52 mm neck at nut, the bridge is standard. what im thinking is that the wider fretboard and strings will position the strings not perfectly over the rods of the single coil pickups, will this have any effect on the pickups?
