  1. Check Thurston manufacturing in the states- they make sawblades with a number of different arbor sizes. I believe they make the .023 5"-6"inch blade with 1" arbor standard- very cheap too.

Too bad you arent in the states.... I'd trade you my 1" for that 5/8".

I say that every day!! ,You guys have got all the good gear over there.

Thanks for your help ,I will look them up on Google.

    Regards

    Greg

  2. I would make sure this is a machine shop that is used to doing precision work. If the hole is slightly off center the blade will lope and wear out the saw very fast, and create a lot of vibrations. When the blades are made, they are either stamped with everything concentric or a hole inserted first and then turned and ground concentric to the center hole.

The machine shop where I work does nice work, but I know they can't hold that kind of accuracy or tolerance.

Yes ,that is what I was concened about.

    Thanks

  3. I gotta ask..."Why?".....On what machine are you planning to mount it? I use mine on a Powermatic model 66 (very large table saw) and it has a 5/8in arbor. It may cost more to bore the hole than the blade is worth.

    Hi,

I have a "Triton" Sawtable (Made in Australia) with a Hitachi circular saw in it.The shaft on the saw is 1 inch.

I can get it bored out for free but I am not too sure if its the way to go.

I have been looking around for a small table saw but even a lot of them have a 1 inch spindle.

    Thanks

  4. Hi,

I have the Stewmac Frett slotting blade. Have any of you guys had the hole size drilled out to 1 inch.

I was going to get mine altered at a engineering shop but I thought I would ask the question before I stuff it up.

Also what kind of speed are these suppose to operate at.

    Thanks

    Greg

  5. Errrrr......why are you thinking of using a scroll saw blade in a jewellers saw frame ? just buy piercing (sp?) blades for the frame (Google 'jewellers tool supplies' or 'piercing saw blades' or something simular or even check your local Ebay).

If it's your first attempt i'd probably suggest, not that i'm an expert or anything, using something reasonably robust like 2/0 or perhaps even 1/0 if your a bit of an animal and leave the 3/0 or 4/0 until you've had a bit of practice as they'll tend to snap more easily.

    This sort of thing !

    Thanks Jem,

It's amazing when you search or use the right "terminology" ...

    Cheers

  6. I have a Stewmac ooo kit,

In it I recieved 2 pieces of white platic binding about 1/4 inch wide for the sides, 2 pieces of very very fine white and 1 piece of very very fine black for the top.

I undestand how to route the edge etc and where they go,but how do I glue and fit the 3 fine ones together.

Do they all get stuck together first, then installed into the routed chanel.

Is there an easy way to do this ?

    TIA

<I have tried to search the site but the search would not work for some reason>

  7. The StewMac video might be for a dead flat top. Flat top guitars can be either that ( dead flat) or slightly radiused. If you are going to use a go-bar deck and make a radiused top a radiused disc is the way to go. There are other alternatives though. You can sand the braces to the radius you aiming for and glue then on one by one forcing the plate to conform to the shape of the brace. David Russel Young describes that method quite well in his book the steel string guitar.

    Thanks for the info .

I think this is the way Stewmac do it. The braces are already radiused.

  8. Hi

Has anybody tried heating a bending iron with a hot air gun.

    Regards

    Greg

yes indeed..that's exactly how i heat mine. i have a length of 2" galvanized pipe mounted in a floor flange snip>>>>>>

    Hi Greg,

You do realize that heating Galvanized pipe can be deadly???? I do hope you are using lots of ventilation and cross breeze, as well as being outside? I'm just trying to prevent you or any one else from getting deathly ill or possibly dying from the fumes that expelled from galvanized steel after reaching 500 degrees. Just wanted to post the warning, I'm not chastizing just want you and everyone to be careful and be safe..

    Sincerely,

    Mike K

    Thanks for that Mike,

I appreciate what you are saying.

I actually picked up a 80mm Aluminium pipe and did a test run with the heat gun and some scrap. So far so good??

  9. im going to dive into the world of inlaying. i need a base for my dremel, but i am on a budget. so the stew mac one seem outragiouse in price. will this one be good enough: link

I have one of them (Dremel Base) and they seem to have a lot of Flex in the plastic _I wouldn't buy another one.The Stewmac one looks a lot better.

  10. I am not too sure what a Charcoal lighting element is.I had a search around.Any chance of a picture.

An Aussie that doesn’t know everything about and around BBQs?

Sorry, couldn’t resist that one. I have a friend that moved to Australia and he told me that you were the world champions when it came to barbeques.

    Found a link:http://www.wosab.se/Irene-sv.htm

i certainly don't want to cause any problems between you and your friend but he's wrong...everyone knows that barbeque was invented in texas and that we are the undisputed world champs. :D

by the way GREGMW..if you're still following this thread i apologize for not supplying the pictures that i promised but a better retail space came available and i've been moving my guitar shop for the last 3-3 1/2 weeks and haven't even set foot in my shop for a while.

No worries John,When you get a chance I would appreciate it.

In the meantime I'll just go out and cook up some "Texas Ribs" on my "Gas Fired BBQ"

    Cheers

    Greg

  12. Yes, I prefer to use my side bending machine as a form and if touch up is needed I have a 3" iron pipe with a charcoal lighting element stuck inside.

    Peace,Rich

    Thanks Rich,

I am not too sure what a Charcoal lighting element is.I had a search around.Any chance of a picture.

We probably call them something else down here.
