  1. Well ive just starated to build a guitar and ive no idea when i will get to finish it. I study autocad and inventor at college and dont get that much spare time for guitars. Anyway ive decided to make myself a les paul jr (im calling it the 'les dawson jr'), im only using scrap and free timber for this as im sure im going to have a few cock ups along the way.

Personly i dont like the feel of a high bridge and the angle of the neck with tunematics and i do love a 25.5 scale neck. But i absolutely love the look of les paul jr's so ive decided to make a 25.5, 22 fret neck. Im going to drop the Schaller roller tunematic into a cavity a little like a jem's tremolo, as will the tailpiece.

Timber is all scrap or free apart form the ebony.

Neck: Seleple, ebony, figured maple head plate.

Body: 1/4" figured maple top, ive got american cherry i will use if i can dye it dark, or its sepele. (maple top on white wood looks odd ??).

Pickups: Whatever is cheap on ebay at the time :D

    Bridge: Schaller roller tunematic chrome.

Tailpiece: Schaller stop tailpiece w fine tuners chrome.

    Tuners: Grover self locking chrome.

  2. Thanks for making it so clear what to do. Ive weighted them down with sticks for now and will leave them for a week or so. I use a local joiners when i need to joint large planks and last time i was in their workshop i was shown a medium sized steam tunnel that i could use if i really need too.

Thanks again you lot, i knew you would sort me out !

I will post up my progress with my guitar soon.

  3. Oh my... Some stunning inlay there you guys. Got any more pics, or more projects ? I really like the inspiration i get when looking at other peoples work.

Ive not done much inlay myself but have been practicing with all sorts of material over the last year. Anyway i feel ready now and have ordered a small fortune in mop, Black Tahiti Pearl, Pink Mussel, Sparkle Abalone Laminate and ablam.

HAHAHA just as i typed this all my shell has just been delivered !

If any of you need a little more inspiration take a look at larry robinson's work.

  4. Hi RGman, yes its quite bad and im sure its not going to be possible to joint them in their state. I clamped them flat a few days ago, i did have a sneakie look to see if they were any better but they are still the same. Ive only got a few weeks then ive got to make a decision whether or not its usable.

Im going to try and iron them in a week or so, if its possible to iron them over a arm rest then (FINGERS CROSSED) it will also work for flattening.

  5. Hello to everyone.

Im lucky enough to have been given a stunning 1/4" bookmatched flamed maple top. I really want to get on and joint the two halfs together, the problem is both halfs are bent. Looking at the endgrain i can see a nasty radius across the timber. This is work in progress so i hope ive posted in the right place.

What should i do to flatten them ? Iron and steam i guess ?... im a little scared of splitting the wood. I have them clamped flat at the moment, to stop them getting worse.

    Please help me.
