Do a fret level and crown, then adjust the truss rod!
You should still have a slight curve when the adjustment is done.
It'll make a world of difference.
Info available on the net.
I've never really messed with my truss rod before, always been pretty good. A tiny adjustment here and there.I refinished my five string after years of not touching it. Came out good, but the action was horrible. So I adjusted the neck until it was more or less straight (eyeballing it) and the strings are unplayable, rubbing on 75% of the frets. I adjusted the saddles at the bridge - they're now all the way up and it's still unplayable.
What is an acceptable truss rod adjustment? Is a little curve in the neck OK?

If the switch you are useing is a standard Fender switch

If you are useing a Stewart-Macdonald switch

If it's not a switch problem, check all your solder joints and make sure wires aren't coming in contact with each other causeing it to ground or short.
If it looks sloppy, clean it up and you'll probably find the problem.

I'm building a saga lp guitar kit it's finished but it had a high hum. it turns out the pick-ups are wired wrong. i'd like to upgrade, not cheap but quite nice. i've never bought pick-ups before and have no idea what to look for.Any suggestions?

Not sure where you live but, here's an outfit with some good gear at good prices and a bunch of lefties guitars.

I installed EMG 81 and 85's in my custom build....however my tastes have evolved a little. I've been going back to my first guitar, a Yamaha Pacifica. I like the way it plays and sounds. I'm thinking of replacing the neck pickup and possibly the middle(both singles). It has a 5 way switch, and to my knowledge theres one position where it combines the neck and middle pickups together (there is no him in this position) is this correct? anyway, I just want a warm tone for playing mostly clean rythym and lead, with lots of sustain. I've never tried anything else besides what I have, so I need some advice (I'm left handed, I can't exactly pick up a guitar in a store and make a good choice). Also, I really know little about 'sustainer kits' though I have been reading the sustainer thread.any advice is appreciated!

You could start here and work your way to designing your own.

Hey I was just wondering if it would be possible to make a home-made distortion and wire it into my guitar? I'm new to this whole thing but I'm just wondering if it'd be possible. -
I don't see how the plastic would interfere with the magnetic field but I can see how the thickness of the plastic would interfere with the pickup's distance from the strings.
