  1. The easiest way is to take a guitar you already like and take an outline of it on paper. Note the leg positions and the inward peaks of the cutthroughs and try not to mess too much with them since you will create balance problems (I had that problem a few days ago ) Then just try to make it fit the plan that you have in mind.
  2. Yes im stubborn I think you will like this final version I gave emphasis to the lower part of the body and tried to tackle its stability problem. Post comends please. PS: its going to be a neckthrou so the top is not a neckpocket its just a piece hanging there.
  3. I tried to make it more balanced by moving its legs and chaning the whole thing in a way and it looked almost the same as an SG with a bend ass. I love the SG design hence the thorned cutthroughs but It doesnt confort me since I play at an angle and I have to strugle to get it in a position I can play. The design I made was for my playing and it simply fell in the correct spot in my legs when sitting down. ( dont think dirty now ) I think Ill try to plan it out on a sheet of plywood or something harder to get a better feeling of how it will actually be. Sorry for being anoying
  4. ah and it isnt much larger than an SG. In fact the SG is fatter. It has the same waist line as a stratocaster and near the SG. Maybe my pictures are not so good..i must place the strat clone next to it so you can compare by eye.
  5. What I do to test if it is stable I take that stratocaster clone I have and I place the plan over it and see how much it differs on one side and I try to make it have about the same amount of wood extenting. Of course if you think that the cavities will be diferent...there is alot of difference in moments in a different shape, the neckthrou design will combine wood of different densities makes the stability issue realy hard to figure out.
  6. I did read your reply and thats why I draw a new one different. I tried to balance it more and it does look more balanced. I also changed more things to help its playability..widening the cutthroughs is one of the things changed. I can`t see what you say that it cannot be playable....When I try to fit it on me its comftable and if it was made of wood to be thicker it would be even more comftable.
  7. But when I get the template and place it on my legs to "play" it fits me perfeclty. (Btw I place the quitar on my left leg. Its more comftable for me than my right leg) Yes, but you dont have a neck hanging off the end of it do you? you mean there will be a stability problem?...neck heavy guitar? I place it on my lap and when I continue with my hand and imagine an extencion of the neck it fits me. I must say I hold the guitar in a sifferend way when I sit down than others I have seen. I sit back and it leans on me as it rests on my left leg and I wear the strap thats holds it from sliding.
  8. also the waist is excactly the same size as a stratocaster clone I have. I just measured it and it is the same.
  9. But when I get the template and place it on my legs to "play" it fits me perfeclty. (Btw I place the quitar on my left leg. Its more comftable for me than my right leg)
  10. After considering what most of you said I aplied it to the new design. Please comend on this one as well. Thanks for all the previous coments. I apreciated them. (note: the drawings on it about the pickup placement etc. are just rough scetches. I will do some more accurate drawings after I decide on the guitar outline. Sorry for the flash on the picture...flash + glossy paper it is not good)
  11. Here is a second picture that does the template more justice. It looks like a completly differend thing from a direct angle.
  12. I will have to take another picture of it since this one doesnt do it justice. I t does look elongated from that pic. Altho you were right about the lower horn. It would make it look better.
  13. Ah that is not a neck pocket. Its going to be a neckthrough and I just left that piece hanging there.
  14. Here is a design I made (by coping old designs of traditional guitars ) Please comend on it. (Note: I removed the photo due to its bad quality....move on to see the new one) Btw sorry for the blurry photo. (and the real one does it more justice. It looks even better. I will post some more pics soon maybe)
  15. I want to find some guitar plans for an SG to make a template. I found some CAD files but I dont know how to use them properly. The idea is to find actual size drawings and print them on A4 and join the papers together. Any other hint for help or some info on how to print the CAD file to actual size will be greatly apreciated. Andreas.
  16. Thanks for the replies. Im off now ...damn study time. I cant wait till summer starts and I start my projects. (guitar projects that is..and now a probable bass project)
  17. Goodbye from me for now..too tired to stay. I will look the replies tomorrow.
  18. sorry I didnt specifie...it is 11 in the night here and I was studing all day about chemical reactions acid equilibria pH calculation using logarythms and in the morning I did a physics test on quantum physics centripital motion electronics magnetic fields and more... Im kinda sleepy now hehe Mostly I wanted to know hoe difficult it would be since I have no expierence with basses. It is for a good friend of mine so I want to know if i should get a new book or something or will "make your own electric guitar" by Melvyn Hiscock cover the method to be used. (I havent got it yet...Im waiting for it to come)
  19. What are the differences except the obvious for the neck widths ,scale lenghts and differend hardware?
  20. What are the differences in each of known bridges and tremolos? Which of them are the best for tone transfer and string maintance? Can you suggest drawbacks and advandages of specific models?
  21. I might be able to get walnut and cherry in my hands. How would you describe their tones? They will be used for neck wood.
  22. http://www.novaxguitars.com/Pages/frame_TechInfo.html check this out and tell me what do you think please.
  23. I dont have any expierence at all at this subject so I might be way off in my answer but...Has anyone thought about chemicals? There are some dehydrating agents that remove water from anything ..even the chemical bonds. Im pretty sure that a dehydrating of that degree is not nedded but has anyone tried salting the wood or placing it in brine solution? Calcium chloride works well in dehydrating moisture as well.
