  1. alright update, i know nitefly, you said that the coats on ibanez are thick, but ive been using a palm sander for about 2.5 hours and i havent seen any grain at all. the paint is off but now its this pale, pale red that looks like part of the finish...i also can see from the chip that until i for sure hit grain, ill have to sand another couple mm's. do i need to hit grain before i can refinish?

  2. okay, ive asked this question a bunch of times and never really gotten a straight up answer so here it goes...

im refinishing an ibanez rg and it has some decent half dollar sized chips in it...theyre not extensively deep, but i can definately see wood. theres also little cracks everywhere as well...would it be wise to use your standard wood filler to fix these up when i refinish, or is that a bad idea?

  3. have you scrapped it to check? on a few bodies ive stripped it looks the same but came right off when touched

yeah and it did nothing at all...we have a heater on it because its about 40 degrees outside, but were also in the garage which is warmer, but its not terribly cold either. and are all strippers gel?

  4. okay, so im refinishing an old rg body i have, and it has a couple chips here and there and whatnot, but im trying to strip it using a gel/chemical but its not having any effect. its been on for 30 minutes and it hasnt shown any sign of working. is there something im doing wrong?

crack0bi.jpg the "fracture might be a little hard to see, but it goes around the volume knob(where it used to be at least) then goes about an inch toward the right horn. there are also about two smaller chips around the side of the rg. and no, its not a floating bridge, and i believe its a rg standard.

i just realized what you said...

i dont think there was any filler used. what i was asking is if filler would be nesescary when i refinished it. or maybe i just dont understand what youre telling me...

  6. okay, so i asked this in the finish/inlay section and got a little help but nothing worked...

im refinishing an ibanez rg and had an idea that id really like to do: id like to paint it straight white, but then on the front, somehow( paint, spraypaint, something) put all of my favorite lyrics line after line in a light metallic blue. my handwriting, however is terrible, and im sure my painting is worse. someone suggested typing it out and then cutting it out to make a stencil, but i had to make the words so big, it didnt work the way i wanted it to. any ideas?

  7. okay i think i found the tutorial you told me about...it seems like theres wayyy way way too many ways i could seriously screw something up, and i dont think it will work if im guna just try to do line after line after line. and i tried like a line of cutting out the letters, and i had to make the font/size so big, it sort of defeated the purpose. i dont want the letters to be 12 pt, but i dont want like, 30, either. i was wondering if theres a way to type something up, and send it somewhere to be cut out, or...something? maybe theres an easier way, i just dont know...

  8. i have cubase, it works quite well... however with the modeling i cant help you much. theres some software called amplitube 2 which got a g1 award, so im assuming its good. but i dont think you can just plug in and use them. you might wanna check it out for recording into a pc though?

  9. kay! so im redoing an old ibanez i got my hands on that i really like, except theres some electronic issues and some cosmetic issues too. there are a couple good sized chips in the side and some small, random cracks and holes near the tone and volume. i was going to use the chemical stripping techniqe in the tutorial section, but what i didnt know is if this chip in the side( about the size of a half dollar) could be filled with wood filler, or if theres something else i need to do.

another question is i want new hardware, electronics...everything. i know NOTHING about any of that, what to measure, what would be right for me, what pickups are decent compared to the **** that was on it before. one thing im really worried about is the bridge. i dont know what would fit, or what wouldnt or if theres different sized trem cavities for different trems...anything...im dumb :-). if anyone can tell me about any of this, thatd be hunky dory.:D

  10. okay! so im redoing an old ibanez i got my hands on that i really like, except theres some electronic issues and some cosmetic issues too. there are a couple good sized chips in the side and some small, random cracks and holes near the tone and volume. i was going to use the chemical stripping techniqe in the tutorial section, but what i didnt know is if this chip in the side( about the size of a half dollar) could be filled with wood filler, or if theres something eelse i need to do.

the other thing id like to do with it( sort of ambitious, but thats what i like) is paint it white, then in light blue, paint my favorite lyrics on the front so from far away, its sort of a mix of white and blue. its sort of sentimental, so id like to have it done well. my handwriting is far less than perfect and im sure painting lyrics will be much harder. i dont think i want to have it done professionally because i dont exactly have money flyin outta my butt. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

  11. lol hey if i had the money to make or buy a new one, i would! but like many 15 year olds i am without a job and need an acoustic, so i think im just gonna replace some things and then go from there. o yeah! one more thing...some one told me that grover tuners are really nice, and they look okay to me. so my question is is there a certain kind of tuner for just an electric or one just for acoustic? and if you have any suggestions on which ones work well, do tell! :D

  12. hey guys thanks for the advice! but last night i found another problem... :D i was trying to make sure that the buzz was from the bridge, when i noticed one of the screws connected to the bridge was loose. so i tried tightening it and it just plain fell off. with half of the thread still in the hole. this means i have to find a new bridge right???

  13. hey all im new to the acoustic scene, so watch out.... B)

I have an old 70's epiphone FT-140 that i have loved dearly for a loooooong time. The problem is, its startin to fall apart on me and i need some advice:

    1) I think i need a new bridge because everytime i strum a chord, it makes a small rattle sound and it will not go away. it sounds like it could be coming from the bridge, but then again, what the hell do i know? so if i need a new bridge, what would be your suggestion(s)?

    2) I like to play coustics with electric strings because i can fret them better. but i just put a new set on and the entire guitar goes out of tune after one song. it never did that to me before and i think it might be the tuners, but again, im not sure. If i need new ones, what kind??

Im pretty sure thats all thats going wrong with it, but if i come across another problem, ill be sure to let yall know! :D

    cheers
