Yeah, that one neck blank scares me...
Chris
I agree. The walnut is quartered and the spanish cedar is close but the af mahogany is goofy with knots and swirls. This first batch is meant to help develop a consistent, repeatable process. So they are really prototypes that will be offered up to friends at cost unless they turn out nice enough to sell.

It's slow going but I decided to put together a small batch of 6 tele style guitars to be placed in local shops on consignment. This design is part Tele, part Jazzmaster with a nod to both in the headstock. Nothing revolutionary but I like it. The idea is to follow the telecaster model. A simple, rock solid, blue collar, go to guitar that may not have the flash but has the substance. Hence the name, the Mule. Not the prettiest horse in the stable but it's the one that you break out to do the heavy lifting.
24.75" scale
Sperzel tuners
12" radius
SS frets with a zero fret
Flat top an back
Deep set neck
Wilkinson bridge
SD P-rails pup
1 Vol 1 Tone
vintage cap
Anyway, here are a few pictures.
The basic templates. The headstock looks pointy in the pic but it's at an angle and I sanded some around the tuner holes so it looks a bit choppy here.
A shot of all six bodies and necks. Two walnut, two Spanish Cedar, and two African Mahogany.

Nice. I've been outside building mine all day. Yours required much less sweat, and has no splinters.
Ah, but yours can be whatever width you want it to be. I would love to have a wider one but I guess I'll take what I can get.

I scored this for $225 at an auction this weekend. I waited around all damn day for them to get to it so I'm happy I won the bid. Works nice

Got back from the dentist yesterday and he hooked me up with a **** ton of dental burs. Anyone need any for inlay projects ? Send me a PM and I'll send you a little care package.
Steve
Hey Steve,
I can't quite figure out how to send a PM, so I thought I'd just reply. I'd be happy to pay for shipping if you wouldn't mind sending me some of those dental burs. Let me know what I'd need to do to make it happen.
Thanks,
Frank
No problem, send me your address and I'll send you some.

I bought this old 50's Belfone intercom system at an auction a while back because the receiver had tubes in it. Turns out the tubes are nothing special but when I tore it apart I found a lot of original transistors, a few original paper in oil caps, and six original early 50's two patent CRL 1452 three way switches.
I see a decent amount of information on the web that states that Fender used these switches from 1950 to 1953 until switching to the three patent model.
The thing that confuses me is that my switches are all missing the spring loaded cover on the one side of the switch. Did CRL make a guitar version of this switch especially for Fender ? Any opinions on whether or not my switches may be worth anything to someone looking to restore a vintage early 50's tele or strat ?
Sample of three patent switch - notice the spring loaded cover
My two patent switch....no spring loaded cover
Two patent numbers
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I have a local guitar shop that has agreed to allow me to place my guitars in his shop for a 70/30 split. Do you think that 30% is a reasonable cut for him to take ? I think it seems like a lot considering he's not out anything but a spot on the wall.
What about a damage agreement ? What if some guy drops my guitar and breaks it ?
Anyone out there have any experience consigning their builds at local shops ?
Thanks a lot for the input guys. I'll be sure that his insurance will cover damage to my guitars and might try and negotiate a better split if my first ones sell well.

Allparts Grover 3X3 full size locking rotomatics
I'm not sure how these Grovers work. There is no hole in the post and there are two
cylinder washers (a larger lower and a smaller upper) that are pressed together via the
locking screw on top. I assume the string is "locked" between the two washers but
I cannot find any documentation on these tuners.

Thanks a lot for the input guys. Maybe you're right. Maybe it's a waste of time to use that piece. Maybe I could use it as my first neck carve guinea pig. I have a large roundover router bit that I've been thinking about using to start my neck carves. We'll see.
