So I found this... http://www.warmoth.com/showcase/sc_guitar_...=0&filters=true
I hate the cream dots. I want to place abalone dots in there. do I just drill out the cream with a 1/8 bit chunk them out and put in the 1/4 then sand down?
Anyone else ever replace dots on a fretboard thats been fretted? Just wondering if there is a trick...

This one is for me. Its finished in nitro getting ready for buff.
please don't ask how to get this color its about 10-15 different tries... This piece was 3/8 thick when I started now its about 1/4. Go look up Myka Guitars this is where I learned.
Its Yellow on the outside, orange, brown, then red in the middle. Its like painting with Water colors, as David has said, it takes a lot of practice this is about my 10th guitar that has played with this technique, I think its close to what I want...
I am going to make a custom flame neck with a snake wood board, have not started that yet.
The others are waiting for me to get to them...
Other pics of stuff....

You guys ever see that american woodworking magazine? or somethign like it.
one of the editors is missing a finger from a table saw accident, and wears a patch from something else. he also has a chipped tooth. I am not sure if it a fake but thats the type of pic we need here. Some bodily harm injury

I think we need perry's bad advice pic or something like that.
A router is used to route wood thats about it. It can't drill, sand, or polish or whatever.... A router motor is wired sooo much differently 22000 rpm, vs. most other motors 1750 or 3450 RMPs.
Grizzly sells a cheap osilating unit.

got mine today what a solid awesome piece!!!! Even better than what I can get!!!! thanks again.
let me know when you get more in.
now we just need matt to get some more swamp ash selling.

I have gone through 3 rockler bits and from what I can tell its the same cheapo grade that grizzly uses. not the same carbide.
I have a bad experience with CMT, I bought one at my local woodcraft and I told the guy what I wanted I got the 1/2 bit that has the bearing at 1/2 and the bit at 31/64 or whatever. my neck pocket was off. Will have to try that again. I have heard CMT is good from a couple other guys. Will let everyone know

I use only white side router bits and I have not been happy with the 1/2 by 1/4 depth I have been using. I wanted more cut out but they only have 1/2 by 3/4.
So I asked for a custom quote on a 100 1/2 wide by 1/2 depth bits, with a 1/4 shank.
they can do this for about 20.24 a bit. So my cost is bout 2g for this.
I assume I could get a couple sold on ebay a couple to the guitar building forums?
Anyone interested in something like this?
With the figured tops I use I do all top routing...
let me know

I looked through my woodworking rags, found that the bosch orbital 6 inch was the best to purchase....
say one on fleabay... 225 bucks a little steap, They say the rigid is good, though I am not happy with it.
-
I am in the process of looking for a new orbital. I bought the rigid one and its no good. It barely removed stock when you have a 60 grit paper on it. Its brand new, so I may return it. It was a good price.
I had a makita that worked great till it fell on the floor...
What are you guys using. I need to get something else.

My business is fine. ebay is just a sales channel. I have over 1500 customers through my website, everyone knows my auctions style. the only negative was loosing all the feedback. I am getting the same amount of business as before.

This subject is rather old and everyone has an opinion on it. I did some stupid things but should have gotten a lawyer first.
Though even with a lawyer I did not have the cash to do what I wanted to do. As a small business I would rather take the couple grand and invest it in new tools rather than prove a point. The system is not fair but thats life. Its very easy to claim something as your own, so till someone has more money and energy than me I will not purse this futher.
Not much more to say on this topic...

I say Devon Headen. You have been here longer than me.
Also matt.

how do you skirt the insurance risk perry? Thats the only thing holding my luthier buddy...
-
with that little dust collector you have enough to keep that area dust free?
what about dust when you are routing?

I replaced the last monster I have with a single phase 220 motor. its easy as pie...
you remember this:
http://www.bigdguitars.com/images/pinrouter.jpg
Single phase 220. 1200 for the router. 500 for a new motor.
-
You could either buy a router table. Or have a full production pin router...

what a deal.

usually once or twice depending on how much carbide is left on the bit after it is resharpened.
I usually do twice then toss the bit.

I could make it but my time has become limited in what I am and what I am not doing. A neck requires a little more time and setup compared to the other stuff I am working on.
Also purpleheart is a PITA. It splits and splinters, Its worth the price...
