  1. Right.. and i think the only way to do that is a stacked singlecoil.. Now the two coils may not be the same.. it might be a 5k stection and a 2k section.  I have no idea.. Someone can sneak into a prs dealer with their multimeter and let us know! :D

So you think the appearence of 5 individual coil cases is a cosmetic thingy? or do you mean each "single coil" is in fact akin to a stacked HB?

Link to big pic of 513

  2. ok now that I see that It's a stacked single coil that can be, well, unstacked :D  I will Draw out a schematic later today if I have time, and if not I'll do it tomorow.

Ok so in the humbucker clean mode it's tapped singles and in the humbucker heavy mode it's full singles.   You could use some seymour duncan "custom" singles to give you a nice high output sound in humbucker mode.

I will have the schematic up as soon as I can...

From what I've read on the 513, it's not quire that. It's 5 single coils, the outer 4 of which combine to make 2 humbers. Now, of these four, each must be tapped somewhere within the coil to produce the lower output necessary for the reduced output humbucker mode.

    It is very interesting... :D

  3. So what do you think of just the sound?  I dont really care about effects.

I played one some months ago and thought it sounded nice. Clearly had a meaty/bluesy tube tone to it.

I've got the pedal board - the Valvetronix Tonelab SE. It's wonderful!

  4. Thanks alot monkey, made me wanna go to a pub and have a smoke.   :D

As I understood it, smoking in Europe is commonly more accepted these days than it is in the US?

It appears that way, but never having been to the US I don't know. They are going to ban it in public like (most places?) over there. Infact Ireland already has.

It;s getting so faschist in the UK I wrote a song about it. Seems to me alcoholics are better tolerated here than nicotine addicts...

  5. I think so - as is the way with anything computer based, as time goes on , they get more powerful so you can pack more programming into it. I believe the xt has more voices, programmability and so on. I like mine for recording anyway.

  6. Not being faecetious - but learn to get the instrument in tune - get an electronic tuner and use it.

Once, that's there, listen to some of your favourite music and just play along anything at all - playing your bass will help you identify what the bass player on the recrding is doing - listen for notes of the same pitch as yours plays. then, try to find the same notes he or she plays, and where they are on YOUR bass.

This should give you an ear for where the stuff you're interested in is in terms of the sound of the notes.

But remember no instrument is easy to play well, but perhaps bass is the easiest to start on.

  7. I've done a search, but haven't had any luck at all.

I'm wondering if it's possible to stain the wood (body and maybe neck) and then finish over the top of the stain with tru-oil?

If no-one's tried, I guess my answer is to try it on some scrap and see what happens! But rather than re-invent the wheel, I thought I'd ask first.

  8. All sorts of things!

For my solo live stuff, I go into a Boss multifx then into the PA mixer.
Band stuff, I use a Fender tranny combo, via the same multifx (but in manual mode, not preset). Thinking of adding...
One of my studio rigs - the valve ZVex Nano-head through a boogie 1x12 cab (miked up for gigging as it's only 0.5 watt)

Recording - all of the above plus a Pod XT direct into the mixer.

  9. I'll try that - great suggestion! Many thanks.

I've been using some sort of in-ears for a few years now - and I have to say they are without doubt the best bit of kit I've ever had - bar none - for exactly the reasons you give! They're also great on those nights where youcan never seem to hear ordinary wedges - it's just there right in your head!

  10. Hi Guys. here's the scenario.

I use the monitor out from my PA mixer amp to feed my in-ear monitor system. However, the output of the amp is too hot for the in-ear - even when turned right down I get distortion and have to keep the input level of the in-ear to an almost off position.

I believe that soldering a resistor across the hot and ground contacts of the jack used would drop the level somewhat - but what resistance should I go for?
