back to what bluespresence was talking about, we haven't seen any of your emails. you say you did nothing to antagonize this guy, but we haven't seen any of your responses.

i'm sure you must have friends with cars. parents? neighbors? and meeting in a public place like a post office, especially with a friend along, wouldn't bother me.

while the guy does seem overly dramatic, i would not have touched that neck. everything about your auction tells me not to buy it.

the pictures have already been discussed. a crack could easily be hidden by the fuzziness.

and why wouldn't you deliver it to him if he lives in the same town as you (the second email makes it sound that way)?

for me it was between the tele and the bass. the maple on both of the tops looks amazing, but spalt looks more unique to me. the finish on the tele really makes the figure pop out. on the other hand, i'm usually a sucker for satin finishes.

in the end it came down to the fact that headless guitars/basses just don't look right to me. i went with the tele.

setch's paul would've been in consideration as well, but the knobs just don't do it for me. the top hat knobs just look "right" on a les paul to me. to each his own!

i don't see how a stepped fingerboard would stop you from sliding. unless you're putting insane pressure on the strings, you'll just glide up the string rather than getting stuck on the step.

and psw backed my thoughts up with his playing experience on a stepped-board guitar.

as for guitars with no fingerboards: it's been done. it's how fender used to do all of their guitars (hence the skunk stripe). but having a super thin neck with tall frets isn't practical.

first, you've got the truss rod to worry about. i suppose you could just make the neck the same thickness as before and make the pocket deeper to compensate...

but it seems to me the sliding issue would be even worse on one with frets like that. a scallop job would be fine for me. that way you've got more wood around the frets anyways.

Get some brass (that is brass, right?) screws and epoxy them in the holes. Then cut/grind the excess threads off the back and use the double stick tape thing. It'll look screwed in but be totally removeable.

that's what i was gonna suggest. but i suppose it's not necissary if you're not looking for the screwed down look.

only design change i'd suggest is making the area i have circled a smooth curve. the rest of the guitar is all flowing curves, so i think it just looks out of place as it is.

PS: im droppin two and a half (or three depending on how you look at it) steps

it's always considered two and a half steps, never three. just going by the low string, you drop B to A, first step, A to G, second step, and then G to F#, just a half step. (of course then you're gonna put it down in drop E so that'll bring it down another whole step)

in drop tuning it'd be E. Fb = E. i'd definately go with a 70. i use 11-70 on my 7 string tuned b-e-a-d-g-b-e.

for that i agree that 27" would probably be a good idea. 25.5" would still work, but it depends on how much tension you like and what size strings you'll use.

the grovers on my washburn can take a 70 with no extra drilling necissary. not sure what model they are, they came stock.

to be honest, there isn't really a set of qualifications that a guitar needs to meet to be a punk guitar. wes has the right idea. if i were to buy a guitar to play only punk with, i'd probably go find the cheapest mexi strat i could and mod it as needed.

i'm actually the opposite when i'm playing metal. i don't use the octave because i want to get only the low end of the chord. (by the way, i'm confused as to what you mean by three string barre chords)

plus i like to use power chords in place of single notes for some fast riffing stuff.

bear in mind that you could have frets with the same height but narrower for the upper frets. (more room in between the frets)

i don't think this is necissary, but putting different frets in different spots won't automatically make the guitar have horrible buzzing and high action.

i'd also get two speakers. where would you put just one? you put it on either side of the stage and one side of the audience is out of luck if they were hoping to hear vocals.

this is the perfect shred guitar IMO. i have a guitar that is very close to this model, and it is simply amazing.

only thing i would change would be swapping out the jt-6 trem for an original floyd. (no mods needed)

for an amp: anything high gain and tube. i'm not an effects guy. something like a peavey 5150 or xxx (or if you could find an old ultra) would work perfect.

the digitech metal master is a cheap alternative for recording straight to the board though. its cabinet modeling is much better than its sound through an amp.

aside from the scrotum part, does anyone else not find salvation to be a bad thing?

i don't have experience working with purple heart but i did play a bass with a purple heart fretboard that felt very nice.

please do. seeing a guitar is one thing, but i like hearing it even better.

that said, this guitar looks very nice. i hope my first build comes out this nice.

side note: only 8 hours of play in 6 months? that really isn't much play time. i get more than that in a weekend sometimes.

none of these choices really jumped out at me as what this guitar should be. when i look at that guitar i immediately think that it should be either a very deep red or brown.

i went with green simply becuase i like green and it doesn't get used as much as blue does.

with a regular telecaster bridge no neck angle is required.

and eddie: ne doesn't have an accent on it. je doesn't either. it'd simply be je ne parle pas francais. (yes, i left out the cedille (sp?), i don't know the keystroke for it)

if she wants a strat style guitar, look into carvin bolt kits. for under $400 you can assemble a pro-level guitar.

well to each his own. the shield concept is pretty cool.

that truss rod slot looks really wide to me. it's probably just my imagination, or maybe the rod you're using.

for radiusing the fretboard, you can either buy a radiused sanding block or make one yourself. (i think there's a tutorial somewhere on the main site for making one)

i like the horns on the design. the back end just needs work. i'm not feeling the point.

i picked metal.

really i like a lot of different stuff though. i love prog (old and new). i used to be huge into punk and played in a crappy old school punk band for a while. i went through a blues phase where i listened to a ton of robert johnson and muddy waters. i still listen to jazz, but mostly fusion stuff like mahavishnu orchestra and al di meola. and i play (not well) and listen to classical guitar.
