  1. Finally decided to sell my old explorer and got around to looking up the serial #.... Wound up being made on leap day 1984. Is it only 7 years old? Wonder if some nutty collector will pay extra for that. Never know us guitar people are weird sometimes.

  2. Funny, I would never chastise a person for wearing a christian symbol.

And yet, you chastise them in the previous statement...

as a staunch athiest I feel it keeps the christian zealots at bay.

ANYWAY, decent job, the paint color looks good with the blonde neck and I'm sure it sounds awesome! :D

wow,so much for posting here! I thought this site was about guitars.

  3. Thanx for the input. I built this as an Ebay parts project. The paint is duplicolor auto paint, comes in any color you could want. If you don't like the pentagrams that is a matter of personal taste but as a staunch athiest I feel it keeps the christian zealots at bay. Funny, I would never chastise a person for wearing a christian symbol.

Here is my 1st build. Swamp ash tele W/ maple neck. Wanted to metal up the tele so I used humbuckers, GFS lil' puncher in the neck and a Dimarzio fast track in the bridge. deleted the pickguard to lose the country look. wilkerson tuners and my name on the headstock. serial # 0001, guess I can build 1000 more if the psychologist thing don't work out.

  5. 2nd noob question. I need a std wiring diagram for a 2hb 1vol 2tone 3way blade set up. I would like the center position to be the inner coils in parallel. All the diagrams I can find are for toggle switches. Thanx

Here you will find almost any wiring scheme imaginable and even if you dont there's enough info here to mix and match and get what you need.

Thanx I waited forever for my Bill lawrence p/ups, and I cant wait to hear em. I'll try it tonight.

  6. You can actually email EMG's tech support via their website on this one, and they're generally quite good people to talk to. Since they're sealed units, as long as it's not been subject to abuse in some kind of way (heat/cold, over-voltage, shock, etc) they may actually replace it if you approach the subject nicely with them. A possibility. I'm not entirely sure how to check if the pickup is working as the internal buffer may give misleading or difficult to interpret results compared to a passive pickup, especially as the buffer circuit's build (although it's not a huge secret) isn't public knowledge.

Perhaps the lack of power is down to a short in the coil? It hasn't been abused....has it?

not really, I don't gig anymore. It is in my old explorer and I baby that thing.

  7. Hey guys, I have a EMG 81 that is about 5 years old and it seems to be lacking in power. It is not as loud or as sensitive as it was when new, it is quieter than the 85 in the neck. can I test this with a multimeter and what are the correct specs?

  8. Here are a few pics of my first build. Metal themed Tele, alder body, maple neck, no pickguard, GFS lil puncher neck, Dimarzio fast track bridge. MY name on the headstock, COOL!! not as heavy as my Explorer but i am happy with my 1st build. Next project is allmost done. it is a Ebay DKMG w/sharkfin neck and floyd conversion nut. I am waiting on my Bill Lawrence pickups and I'll be done100_0101.jpg100_0097.jpg100_0118.jpg
