  1. Hi,

I have never dealt with any of these guys, but was checking their offerings and found this inlaid neck.

I believe it is more than just my personal opinion, but there's a lot more to a neck than a fancy inlay. It should be structurally sound, feel good, have a good fretjob, etc. I see an off-center truss rod there. That's a major issue in my book. Makes me doubt about all the rest about this neck's construction.

And talking about the inlay itself, it's a rather poor job. Big pools filled with epoxy, crooked pieces, etc. Inlays should ideally provide position markers too, these only provide confusion. Look at this design for example: The inlays are indeed designed to act as position markers, however they all fall slightly off their respective positions, like if they were designed for a different scale.

They look inexpensive, but they might just be cheap... I'd go for a much simpler design, but much better implementation, myself.

    My 2 cents...

LOL. The first neck there is the one I was looking at getting. I think I shall stay far away from them then. Im annoyed now. Its hard to find a realitively inexpensive left handed strat neck these days and I missed an auction for a mighty might I was watching by a few minutes :D oh well.

What about these guys, the EDEN necks, I see quite a few knocking around ebay? And I could maybe get a paddle head and cut it. http://stores.ebay.ie/diyguitars

  2. Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I may not be going with it over the complete body now as I have decided to run with a diamand plate cover. There will be graphics under the diamand plate so the seams will be hidden. Plan on cutting some designs into the diamand plate and adding some clear plexi glass over it. Should come out nice. Will be waiting about 7 weeks before I do all this though. Have another project on the go first.

  3. Yes I have searched and seen the other threads about tranperency film and slides etc. but I am totally lost in it all. So here I have some questions to clear some things up.

    1) The stuff you use for overhead projectors; is that the stuff you use if you are leaving the slide on the guitar and clearing over it?

    2) I am usin a laser jet is that right?

    3) What type of coating to I put over the printed side, if any?

    4) I know its printed in reverse so Im assuming that means that it goes printed side down?

    5) I am thinking about doing a whole body top like this so will I print out on 4 A4 sheets and then centre them trimming off the excess and mounting them initially with spray mount and clear over it all?

    6) Do I use sprey mount to keep them down before mounting them?

Sorry about all the really basic questions I am totally new to all this.

    Thanks again.

PS I plan on using something like this graphic

  4. Looks cool, headstock really reminds me of one of my own actually so probably a bit biast, lol.(Cant find picks of mine online anymore all the old ones are dead and the pics I had are on the old harddrive but was very simlar except it was level at the top rather then stepped horns.) Cant wait too see it all done. Good work and Im loving the inlays.

  5. Hey, Ive been gone from here for a while but I remember having a thread about this about a year or more ago, it was for a Voodoo SG copy, someone said in there where you can get them cant remember off the back of my hand, I remember though they also suggested not recessing in the back cover but rather screw it straight on the back giving the recess more depth.

Hope that helps in some way.

  6. Go to the local stores and ask if they have any broken ones in the back they cant sell or anything. Got my 12-string for 20 euro over here in one of the local guitar shops here. Alternatively post a request for them on message boards, got my first project guitar that way. She is a beautiful JEM Replica, plays like a dream.

  7. Hi,

I picked up a broken 12string for 20euro in a local shop yesterday. The headstock is broken off and it has no saddle, bridge pins, or tuners. I have a few questions.

First, is there any particular type of tuners I need what with it being a twelve string, I've never worked with an acoustic so I don't know if electric tuners will fit on it. Would these be ok? http://www.luthimate.fr/product_info.php?products_id=578

Secondly, the saddle. What should I be looking for? Are they standard between 6 and 12 strings or what?

Thirdly, there's no way the headstock will be saveable, there are splinners all over it and bits missing. It also cracked right through a tuner hole. Will this be the best way to fix it? http://europa.spaceports.com/%7Efishbake/broken/broke.htm

    Thanks.

PS I'll try and get pictures up soon
