  1. Im afraid i might not be able to, as im very limited on time, and i might not be able to access the forum till next weekend, but ill give it a go. Now on to my Kirk Hammet style Jem. For anybody whos interested its an all-black Jem i.e. like Kirks signiture ESP excep with custom wound (by me) Evo's with coil taps, and PRS 513 wiring. also im looking at putting in a sustainer like what psw is doing. and im also hopefully going to start to make a FR edge lo-pro this week. ......Cant waitr Matt
  2. My latest pics are in GOTM so if you wanna look, then there is a couple there, im afraid the camera doesn't really do it justice Thanks to everybody who helped. Matt
  3. Well I might as well post some pics of my 2nd Guitar and see what happens. Many thanks to all who have helped me, in particular to Maiden69. This is for my A level D&T project. It has... -24.75" Scale length -Neck-thru mahogany body and neck -3A quilted maple top -Black, turquoise, blue staining finished with rustins plastic coating which was burnished then polished. -WDUK guitar tuners -Jumbo fret wire -Zero-nut with fretboard integrated nut/string-guides -Craftsupplies deluxe 2-Way trussrod -EMG 85/81 combo -String thru. + alot of hard work Thanks matt
  4. yea i forgot to mention the light effect there (there was a light bulb directly above it). thanks for all the praise . I did add another coat of a slightly weaker blue to it, as i thought i might make it a nit bluer. Im going to buff it today and put it together and then post some pics. cheers Matt
  5. Right ive started to clear-coat it with Rustins Plastic Coating, this is straight after ive put a 3rd or 4th (cant remember) coat on. It looks a bit rough actually but im sure after i sand it back it should be alright what do you guys think of the body shape and colour? http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y125/mcmeat51/100_0315.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y125/mcmeat51/100_0316.jpg ps sorry if they are too large, if they are someone tell me off
  6. Ok i have a VOX ADVT30 and my guitar that has a bareknuckle miricle man in (pretty bloody hot). could someone help me in my setup? The Amp has a number of modelled amps (that it does very well) and has effects on it such as compression, reverb, autowah etc it also has a noise gate on it as well. How is it possible to get the screaming lead tone that he gets that sounds really clean and not fuzzy and noisey, while still having the definitio to get great harmonics and to sound good when tapping? Is it a combo between using the comp and the noisegate or what? sorry its a pretty basic question and i know alot is to do with his huge talent, but theres gotta be a few tips that i could try. Also if theres any specific equipment he uses that i could buy (or a less expesive option) then that would be great. Thanks guys
  7. yea, really it just comes down to what your happy with in the end i suppose, wether its an expensive hand-wound set or a cheap mighty-mite set -as long as does what you want it to do then thats what matters! I still reckon they kick ass anyway
  8. go to the main website at www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk and after looking around products to see what you want, go to the online shop. A set of warpigs are about £220. I know this can be a bit expensive, but compared to the amount you spend on changing PU you aren't satisfied with, then its not much more. Plus if you dont like them you can send them back and change them!
  9. Thanks alot, they are thicker than I thought actually!
  10. Yea best is British!!! heh.
  11. does anyone know how thin the wizard and jem necks are? just so i dont go too thin on my next project + wat are the best truss-rods to use? the u-channel type or the rod type(like fender ones)
  12. http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php I have always stuck by bareknuckle pickups, I know.. have a MM!! All i hear about BK is great things, the service is excellent and his PU's are very versatille and in my view better than anything else around!! Now hes created a forum (customer service or what?), chech out the distreesed coveres he does on the Warpigs and Nailbombs! i have talked to this guy a few times and hes really helpfull, even when i said i wanted to wind my own and i expected him to be slighty secretive about his stuff, but he was really helpfull. For all your benhifit i reccomend checking out his site if you haven't already!! i have just bought a EMG ZW set and already want to change to a set of Warpigs!! (I'm miracle man matt by the way) Anyway hope its some help to u PU bofs and anyone who is looking for some excellent PU. I have to admit the MM is awesome and pinched harmonics and stuff are 10 times better than that of the EMG 81!!! Matt
  13. I have a vox valvtronic which is 30 watts valve and it was £159 and it sounds great plus it has 11 preset amps to model and 11 effects, the clean is good but the gain is awesome! just my 2 cents but its got great reviews!
  14. ok i see your point and im not asking for anyone to go out of their way here, mybe i was being a bit optomistic, really i was looking at the general dimensions of the base plate and the thickness at the front, back and middle before it gets narrower -(because of the wedge shape). i wouldn't have thought it would need it taken off and they dont have to be exact. but thanks anyway Matt
  15. yea i know what you mean, especially with uneven grain like quilt maple. well if you find a better place please let me and others know cos i looked around and there wasn't much choice. i might tell them tho if i place another order to make sure thattheye are planed equally, other wise we are wasting like half our moneys worth!
  16. yea i understand what your saying, i have some 5mmx10mm rod RE mags and i can tell you strong is an understament! but what i foound was if they are connected to a screw or something, the magnetism from that screw (polepiece) seems to be alot weaker than that of the mags themselves. Here is what im thinking. =========== strings ----0---- ----0---- top of boobin .....0...........0..... ----0---- ----0---- bottom of bobbin .....0(====)0 cylinder magnets horizontal like a bar magnet where we are looking at a cross section of a humbucker, --- are the top and bottoms of the bobbins 0 is the polepieces or screws (====) is the magnets .... are there to get everything central the reason i ask, is because i want to make a sort of 'super evolution' type PU for a Jem. I like the original Evos but i also what an alnico type tone for stuff like satch. im just wondering what RE might sound like? Any ideas?
  17. will it conceal the black tho? or does it mean ill just have to sand back a bit?
  18. sorry to persist but has anyone have a lopro or edge pro? Its just id like to start soonish OR where is a good English place to go to BUY a used one if it comes down to it?
  19. cheers dude. Ive been working hard on it over the past few days and i wasn't entirely happy with the stain, the dark areas weren't quite dark enough for me so that the kind of boost i need right now. ive just done the fretboard and i should be glueing it tonight.
  20. I used Liberon black spirit dye (looked more like dark blue to me ) and went over it quite thickly, then i wiped it back a bit with a rag damp with mineral spirits. I then mixed some blue and black and a bit of brown and went over it a few times. then wiped back a bit and VERY lightly sanded back a bit with 400grit then wiped it back a bit and then a couple passes with the old 400. This is how you see it now. I was aiming for a more turquise colour which looked really nice! but i spilt the stain and couldn't get the 2nd lot to match. The top is a 3/8" from craftsupplies and is 3A and cost around £37. It wasn't equally planed when i got it though so i lost alot of the wood which was a shame. Im wondering about putting it up for GOTM when its done (a few days hopefully) but im unsure.
  21. hey im gonna try this but when i have the money, BUT what would a RE magnet PU sound like? Im thinking of putting sone rod like RE magnets in a humbucker (Evolution type) and using the magnetic permiability of the screws to dampen the force so it doesn't rip off my strings would this work and what might one sound like compared to alnico or ceramic? cheers matt
  22. Opps sorry i didn't realize it was so large, my bad Matt
  23. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y125/mcmeat51/100_0307.jpg does this look ok, the stain looks a bit dull to me as i have lightly 600 sanded it
  24. i read a thing on the internet where someone made a guitar out of MDF and he said it sounded quite good and sustained very well, i make used to make speaker cabinets as well but i though that it wasn't the fact it damped the vibrations, more the fact that it was more solid and didn't resonate as a body not that it absorbed them. if this was the case then maybe it would work? but im no expert.
