  1. I'm getting ready to start my first guitar project soon. A friend & myself are going to be building a fretless neck-through bass. He's a great bass player & I'm a so so woodworker, so we figure we can't go wrong :D The body is going to be bubinga. We haven't decided on the neck yet. We want to make a laminated neck. I'm thinking about a piece of purple heart down the center with thin strips of ebony on either side, surrounded by a lighter colored wood. I have a piece of sycamore left over from another non-guitar project I did that would look awesome with the other woods. Anyone ever heard of using sycamore in a neck? It's a very dense, tight grained hardwood & I wonder how it would work in a neck. The grain pattern is very cool. Also, any thoughts on using purple heart for a fretboard? We can use all the help we can get. Thanks
