I'm going to order the body blank for the Tele soon and I have a little question about a certain cavity that has to be routed in between the neck pickup and the control plate on the front of the guitar. My guess is that it has something to do with the wiring but I want to make sure. Here is the picture of the cavity in question:

I like the design! I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Hmm... maybe not, then. I dunno, it seemed a bit low to me, but then again I bought EMG pickups ($100 ea) and a $250 neckthrough neck. Different builds, I suppose.
Yeah, probably heheh.

@ Xanthus: I got the list of Tele parts from here: http://www.stewmac.com/telecaster. Let me know if I'm missing something please.
-
Wow, I just totaled up all of the parts including the pre-made neck, body blank, hardware, and wiring to somewhere near $450 if I bought everything from StewMac. I'm considering building my own neck if it will be cheaper. Is it cheaper?
-
Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna make my own templates from plans. That way I'll be sure they're the right measurements and everything. I can use my school's CNC machine for free.
EDIT: By the way, are the pre-made necks from StewMac any good? If not, then what one would I get?

So, I'm reading Melvyn Hiscock's book and I gotta say that I love it so far. I'm getting an idea of what guitar I'm gonna want to make (Fender Tele), and I'm unsure of whether it's worth it to buy the templates or the plans. If I bought the plans I would know the measurements of where to place the controls and pick-ups and can buy separate templates for each thing, and it would be cheaper. But if I bought the templates, it would be a lot easier than doing the previously mentioned but much more costly.
Which path should I take?

Awesome! Did you build the neck yourself?

If it makes you feel better, I just ordered your book from Amazon. So it's not an e-book.
-
Well, I just ordered Melvyn Hiscock's book "Make Your Own Electric Guitar" and am waiting for it to be shipped.

The second one is a great piece of work! Nice color choice.

Alright. I'm gonna buy it soon. Plus, my birthday is coming up so I can spend money on prep things if necessary
-
Is that book found in most public libraries or is it something that you have to buy?
Also, which I'm sure is probably common for beginners, the main hindrance is the fear of spending so much money only for it to turn out bad. This could most likely be overcome by being well informed, like MexNoob said, which I plan on being.

Hello, I'm 15 years old and love to play guitar. I've just recently been interested in making my own guitar. I can't imagine the satisfaction that would come out of it and would very much like to experience that. Now, I know what you're probably thinking, "He's 15 years old he doesn't have the patience," but this is something that I really feel that I would take my time with seeing as how it would be pretty costly.
I look forward to learning about this intriguing hobby and hearing what everyone has to say.

Thanks for the fast reply guys, since the Tele will have two pickups and one bridge pickup I'll figure something else out for the wiring.
