Hey, i'm painting a guitar and I accidentally sanded through both the clear and color coats, now i have a 1x1 inch spot of wood, does anyone know how to fix this realitively easily?

If you want to cut the sanding amount down, and risk sanding through the paint around the drip, you can VERY CAREFULLY after it has cured shave off a little bit of the excess paint. After you have taken it down to almost the paint level, you can sand it down like brian said.

Eddie Van Halen was the person who inspired me into taking up guitar, so I was thinking for my next project that I would duplicate Eddie Van Halen's Kramer Baretta, the red one with the white stripes. I have a good idea of how to do the paint job, but I wanted an as close as possible replica of his guitar, and I can't find any good pictures! Does anyone have a good picture of his guitar, it would help me out a lot!

ooo, i just saw this commercial for a new type of paint that is made specially for painting plastics, i forget the name of it offhand, but if you ask a home depot or lowes, they will probably know what your talking about

and, sorry, one more question do i polish it with a type of compound or something like that when i'm using my baby nappies?

Well, did you prime the guitar before you added your paint? There are certain paints that ahere do different things, and maybe on accident you picked the two types of sand and sealer and paint that dont want to stick. And if you are looking for paint, a great site that sells nitrocellulose laquer in many different solid colors and translucents is www.reranch.com, they also sell the clear nitro laquer too. These are the types of things that you want to paint your guitar with, and you don't have to worry about primer either.

what exactly should I use to buff it with?

I've already wet sanded my guitar down to 1200 grit, and now I am on to the final polishing, what do I have to do to get the nice shine? Do I have to buff it, or can I just polish it by hand, and what should I use?

Well, being new at finishing guitars, i can't really answer your questions about when to glue it on, but I would say put the larger version of it paralell to the bridge, thats a nifty idea though

I dunno how much this applies to this topic, but I once saw a computer by alienworks that was painted in this chamelion color, and the colors would literaly move and the light hit them, it was pretty sweet.

I had the same thing on my guitar that I am refinishing. When I sanded it, it came off white, and took a long time to sand also. I was thinking that it was some kind of sand and sealer, or maybe an extra layer of laquer or something, I'm not very sure. But I havent put all the hardware back into the guitar, and now I'm excited to see if mine sounds better too.

I'm in fairfax county, Virginia, I just went out looking for some paint today, and had no luck, but my dad went online and found this great site, www.reranch.com that will ship the paint in spray bottles to my house, the site also has some good information on finishing guitars, if anybody wants to take a look at it

well, i heard that i should use acrylic (dunno if I spelled that correctly) paint, but I cant seem to find a good place to get it

I came across this site a while ago, when I was interested in finishing one of my friends guitars (practice before doing anything on mine ) It would be the first time that I have finished a guitar, and now that I'm half way through the project, I've realized how much this site has helped me, and I would just like to say thank you all for putting in your time and energy to post information so people like me can learn to make some sweet looking guitars. One quick question though, does anyone know where I can get some good paint?! I've been looking everywhere, and I cant find anything. Thanks a lot!!!
