How so? We can't force you to remain a hobbyist. There is nothing that I am doing that will either hold you back or stop you from excelling. It all comes down to how much you put into it and how much you really want it. It's all up to you.

And I never did, and still don't, consider myself a real craftsman, or really have any -talent- to speak of, at this.

All I did to get where I am is practice, practice, practice. And read. I buy books and read them ( ) about finishing and other things...

And in the end, I do this for fun and that's it. I enjoy it. That's the primary motivator that moves me to build a guitar, because it's fun and it's a challenge to myself. There are no strings attached ( ), no deadlines to meet, no expectations to live up to, total and complete freedom to build whatever comes into my pointy head.

have you ever read The Foutainhead? It not about guitars, but what youu've said in this thread sound,oike they came right from the mouth of the main character.

Looks good, but I would space out the 4 side just a bit maore and place the pegs on the 3 side between the pegs on the 4 side.

Hey, I jsut recently finished building my second guitar. I'm 16 years old and thought it would be cool to see what other people thought of my guitar.  I love the SG shape so I tried to change it a little with a couple of my own touches. It also has a whammy bar, but its not in the picture, and its also got coil-tapping.  The things on the headstock says Conner Custom.  It took me about 6 months to build and finish.

thats much better. I have a fast internet so they load up fine, but I couldn't get the whole thing on the screen.

the shape looks great, but I have toa gree that it would look even better with a wild or just darker top wood.

That seems backwards to me.

I read that Mustaine was coming out with a new DV model guitar that would be including a new pickup he is designing with Seymour Duncan?  It was hte pickup that interested me most.... he claimed in the interview that it would be a Active JB; a mix of the metal livewire and the JB.  Anyone  heard anyhting about that?

Also, I keep seeing this in the specs of these guitars...what is the JBJ pickup? how is it different from the JB?

I don't think it is your standard two part epoxy.

I asume you're talking about that think clear stuff they use of restaraunt table when they have like pictures and such underneath.

Like maybe those restaraunts where each table had some various photogracphs, coins, etc, etc underneath the finish?

I think I knw what you are talking about, but from what I understand it is a little pricy and is more complicated that epoxy. This sounds odd, but my great grandmother used to decorate her toilets with it. She would put coins, yarn, and anything she could fins on the toilet seat and then finish it with this stuff.

She was a little looney though.

if the surfaces are prepered well, and the headstock is clamped properly while gluing it should be fine.

I find that glue joints are stronger than wood.

I hate pickguards too. Its just my opinion, but there is nothing like a piece of plastic to ruin the front of a guitar.

I love that "rounder" body. The shape and wood choice really looks classy. Its definately my kind of look. To me it seems like a tru oil type guitar.

I would also be happy to take it off your hands.

I actually just got one today. It came with the flex shaft attachment and some differebnt bases. Its looks like it could be very usefull, especially for inlaying.

I cannot ground to my TOM is the standard fashion. What I'm wonder it id I could run a tiny cavut into the neck pocket and ground to a neck screw.

i make a bolt on type heel and pocket...only difference is i make the heel taller and the pocket deeper than a bolt on....for extra glueing surface

alright, I figured it out. I had a look at the yahoo groups page. There is a huge section devoted to it nd once I get a chance to read all of their tutorials, I think I can get quite a bit out of this little thing. However it turns out that the pedals just needed to be calibrated to work correctly.

Do you have one? Are you using it with a v-amp?

Alright so I got the behringer fcb1010 and have hooked it up to my v-amp via midi cable.

I have reset it to the factory preset for V amp products. All of the foot switches work how I want them to but I can't seem to program the expression pedals to control volume and wah.

I have look for how tos on the internet and none of them have worked.

Does anyone hav this who would be able to explain how?

The clear coat is if you want to polish it. Its not required but i would do it for protection and gloss.

I have made a 5 piece laminated neck blank out of cherry and purpleheart. I have not used it yet though.

These are the closest I have. The neck has not been shaped yet, and these puics are from before I even started cleaning up the epoxy.

what are the tonal properties of purpleheart. This is not for me, it was requested by the person I'm making it for. But I love the wood.

I love purpleheart, but I find that atleast the piece I have is very grainy and is rather dufficult to get a very clean cut. This is especially difficult when using chisels for inlaying (never again. I'm buying a dremel with christmas money).

I love the look of purpleheart though, so it really is worth it.

As for the slant of the heel, it is a multi scale guitar, so the frets are pretty highly fanned. The slant of the heel is actually parallel to the 22 fret.

Alright, this is my second guitar. Its got a mutliscale neck, purpleheart fretboard, and maple neck.

The body has a purpleheart front and maple back. Pickups are undecided.

here is the progress so far. I have not cut the body out yet so don't cringe at what looks to be little chunks ripped out. This is just a paper outline set on top of the blank. I order this blank from exotic hardwoods. It is 2 inches think and needs to be 1 inch or less. That is my big problem. IO will be chenking arpund to see if I can get it resawed nd then possibley looking into bookmatching one side of it. If notm tdog has graciously offered to resaw it and if I can't get it done locally I just may take him up one that, assuming he's seriuous.

Another problem is that after inspecting this two piece blank, I have found that the bottom of the blank is not joined well at all. The wood is actually not connected. I will see if I can work around this but if not I'll be making a little call to exotic hardwoods.
