  1. Im kinda confussed about what the difference between a regular tram cav and a recessed trem cav is. Does the JEM have a recessed cav? How can i tell the difference between these? Thanks
  2. Alright, well its been a few days some work has been done, guess its time for an update lol. I got my quilted and flamed maple from ebay. Got my quilted bookmatched and glued together. Tomarrow i should be gluing it to the V body. I got my two neck blocks (mohogany and flamed maple) ripped down the middle and tomarrow i will be cutting the angle and gluing them. Then by monday i should have my JEM body routed (said was going to do it last weekend but am waiting for bridge to come in) and done. Come monday i will sand my V and start cutting and shaping my necks. So far there have been a couple set along the road but nothing extremely big. Also i know ive been promising pics. I am getting my brothers camara this weekend and will be taking pics of everything from here on out. Also toamrrow i am going to talk to the plastic shop in town who told me that doing the chrome plastic stuff is no problem, so if anyone has any questions for them let me know and i will ask them.
  3. I am horrid at photoshop and all those programs. So i was wondering if anyone would be interested in making me a logo? On my first guitar i have my logo lasered into my truss rod cover but now i suppose is time to go ahead and get a logo and stick with it. So anyone interested, i love the ibanez logo, was wondering if someone could do something along those lines but with my initials. I want the logo to say S.K.L Guitars Like that. If anyone would i would so very greatful. Thanks
  4. I got my whole little bridge situation worked out. Im using a floyd rose low profile. I am going to route my whole body tomarrow. I will take some pics and post them. Just another quick question (i know you guys are getting tired of my stupidity lol), seeing how i am using a floyd rose does that mean i will have need f spaced pups? I searched and found the post and still was a little confussed. Thanks
  5. But still the point of the matter is that the dude posted once and got told what to do and not to waste everyones time. He could just have accepted the fact that he made a mistake apologized and prolly would of got an apolagie back, but instead he goes off the deep end and attacks kevan. From what ive seen here on the board everyone is usually nice and respectful to each other. Who would want to post on a board with a bunch of pricks. In my opinion each should apolgize to each other and let it better water under the bridge and get back to whats more important..... BUILDING GUITARS!!!!!!!
  6. Yeah i went ahead and ordered the lo profile one. Im more familar with these and trust it more. However now i have to complete refigure out my trem cavity. Good thing i didnt go ahead and route it using the template. That would have been bad. Btw Greg, check out the place i ordered my floyd rose from. They have all models, so u could get ur original from them.
  7. Im building a jem basicly exactly like yours. You can check out the specs of mine here. If you have any questions let me know, ive been researching jems for a while and you can ask anything you like. My question is what exactly do you want to know.
  8. So what trem would u think is better. This one or the ebay one?
  9. It might be made for an ibanez trem... I never thought of that. If it is and i use a different trem will i be screwed? Or is it like a one size fits all to an extent type of thing? I was gonna use an over seas made cheap floyd rose
  10. So basicly its just a normal floyd style but uses ball end strings? Also whats the difference in the size of the nut? This one uses 1 and 11/16 nut. Is this as common as 1 5/8? Would i be better off getting this or a regular over seas made floyd rose?
  11. Has anyone tried one of the new speedloaders? If so what was your thoughts on it? I was thinking about putting one of these in my vai instead of a lo pro. Does anyone know if the instruction templates on floyd rose site are one to one? The speedloader i was looking at was this one. One of the cheep one till i can afford one of the real ones. Speedloader Edit: Started looking at it more and the more i look at it the more it looks like a lo pro floyd rose with the speedloader ability implicated into it. Anyone else think the same?
  12. Alright, well ive ran into some problems and i have some questions. I went to route out my guitar body and ran into some complications. When i started this project i bought a set of templates for the JEM and the template that i was sent does not match all the demensions of the pdf instructions on on floyd rose home page. The templates are only off a few mm. I thought maybe he was just giving me some room to work with, but thought i asked first cause this is my first time installing a tremolo. So what do i do? Do i take the pdf demensions and use them or the template demensions and use them? Also how big is the heel on the back of a bolt on neck cause i need to route my neck cavity and dont know how far down to route it.
  13. Ok, more progress. The outside of my JEM is done being sanded and tomarrow i will route everything out. I got some badass quilted maple from durawoods (thanks metal matt) on ebay for my V. And i also got a block of flamed maple for my JEM neck. I will also start working on my fretboards tomarrow. I will be getting routed and holes drilled for my leds going in them.
  14. Alright well i was just wondering this question. Im on my 2nd guitar and i put dots in the first one and i found center by drawing lines from corner of each fret. Which worked but a couple i wasnt exactly on and the dots arent all centered. Well this one im doing leds and if i dont get them all exactly center it will show worse cause they will light up. So is there an easier way them what im already doing?
  15. I just bought some wood from him today on ebay, this post makes me happy. Cant wait to see mine now..... I got two blanks. One i will use for my neck and the other i will bookmatch myself and use as a front.
  16. Yeah i did that today, and the figure is just really faint. So what im going to do is take all the curly maple i have and save it for another project. Im thinking a telecaster. Im going to buy some maple off ebay, like was recommended before, just wish i had listened lol. Guess thats what i get for taking chances eh? Oh well, all the wood will get used. Im also thinking that im going to upgrade my JEM neck to all flamed maple. My question is how hard is flamed maple to carve with a rasp and surform and what not? Does the grain want to tare a lot?
  17. Well my vai it total cut out and just about done sanded (outside). Im still deciding what to do about my maple, cause the supposed curly maple that i ordered really isnt that curly at all and i want a lot of figure showing. So now im debating weather to buy a blank off ebay. Although if i do i have no idea what to do with all this other extra wood i have now......... hmmmm perhaps yet another project in the starts. I also found out that my mohogany blank had enough extra wood so that i can glue it up and get yet another V out of it. Im gonna glue it up and cut it out and ill just wait and see what i have to do with it. Need to come up with some more ideas....... Ill keed you guys posted.....
  18. Have made some progress. Got all my wood glued up and was able to cut out my V today. I will cut my JEM tomarrow. I got my curly maple today from Macbeath and it doesnt look all the figured but of course its also just rough sawn too. Im sure ill see more when i bookmatch it. I will bookmatch this tomarrow and glue it. Prolly by friday i will have both guitars cut out and the v glued together (top and back) and be ready to start my necks. I have pics but my teacher took them. I will get copys and post them.
  19. I know vai uses dimarzio evo's however what is the middle pickup in there. I searched the fourm here and someone said its a virtual vintage. Anyone know what model?
  20. Well im building a jem and the template i bought doesnt have the loins claw laid out on it. I know there is a tut on how to do one but im just curious in your guys eyes how hard are they to do. Not only that but what do they do exactly? Is it just a look thing?
  21. Well i few changes have already occured. Im going to be using Curly maple (really figured) instead of flamed maple for my front. I saw some of this and fell in love with it. And my Jem body is going to be alder not basswood, and the neck will be flamed maple and babinga not just regular maple. I will most likely be ordering the wood tomarrow so i will keep you guys posted and take pics of it when it comes in.
  22. Cool guys thanks for the opinions, i was kinda leaning toword alder anyway, just wanted some other opinions. Also does it mater how many pieces of wood are glued together for the body? i think i might have to glue 4-6 to get the thickness and length.
  23. Just curious where do u guys get you flamed maple tops and what do u pay for them?
  24. Im deciding between these two for my jem guitar. Which do you guys like better? Price really doesnt matter to me... Look at my post in the progress section to see all the specs of the guitar, or look here project
  25. Im going to do a lime green to the natural wood grain in the center for my v.
