So..
I'm interested in your way of fretting maple necks !
ok, lets skip almost the whole build and talk about sequences.
my way should be like this.
- making the neck, just like the one with rosewood and etc.
either way, one piece or putting a maple fingerboard.
- sanding
- lacquering
- putting frets (and all work on them)
- polish
+ it's easier to remove frets (after)
- lacquer can break in process of hammering the frets, or putting major scratches in finish
- lacquering over frets... hmmmm... I see that almost everyone does like that... but cleaning them, and changing them later would be pain in the ass.
I don't know anymore ....
I will give it a try and lacquer over frets.
it's more safer that work will be done perfect !
so...
- making the neck (shape, contour....)
- sanding
- fretting
- removing all scratches (IF)
- lacquering
- cleaning frets
- polish
I'm open for your tips & tricks
best wishes !

for contouring...
sharp chisel, scraper and a lot of sanding paper.
in my case !
but, dremel with sanding disc could do it the same !

I just like the control of hand tools. makes me feel more secure

I'm using dremel for jobs like this. my router is too big for that.
but, the dremel is also on stand.
first, make outline contour. cut the outline shape, make it nice. and then rout the cavity on proper depth and wide, while the top of the bridge is still flat.
drill the holes for pins, and finally make the top contour. sand it and glue it last !
ebony is hard wood and there is no fear of breaking something.
-
make your own !
in shape whatever you want it !
as i can see, the bridge is already glued off of top.
put a wet towel and iron it and try pull it of.
heat a knife or something like that and push it under.
the job is half done !
take everything from bridge, take another piece of ebony and copy the broken bridge.
just do it !
-
damn !
looks perfect !
do you sell those or it's just for your builds and your needs ??
-
something I liked (for that) is what I saw in one video at youtube....
vacuum stick build in the table.
like ones for the glass (etc car gps)
but in much bigger edition !
but, since I never found anything like that to buy, I just use this what member "Mender" said !
works well....
(for now)

are you asking if anyone has wood like this for sale, or are you selling this wood?
I'm buying it, NOT selling.
IF you are looking for someone to source them for you:How many of each are you looking for? What are you willing to pay? Do you understand that chances are someone would go out and have to buy a whole board to be able to get these for you? IE: Are you prepared to buy more than you need? etc.
There's quite a bit more information you need to give. Especially the answer to Wez's question lol.
Chris
How many of each are you looking for? 2 pieces of one kind of wood above mentioned (1 would be OK too)
What are you willing to pay? quality (again, depends on type of above wood)
Do you understand that chances are someone would go out and have to buy a whole board to be able to get these for you? well.... I could do that. I'm looking for scrape in that dimensions (left over)
Are you prepared to buy more than you need? What I'm planing to do is not so frequent build, so it would be great if amount of wood is only for this.

so, I'm buying some of these woods for neck lamination:
maple
purpleheart
walnut
bloodwood
ebony (+ ebony for fingerboard 4"wide 23"long)
bubinga
lamination dimensions:

1" wide
0,7874 thick
payment via paypal worldwide !

man...
that's awesome !!!!
and, your grass is so fat and green :D
and, could you tell me (at private msg) the price of this kind of guitar ?!
made by you ?!!?
-
my vote went to Metalhead !
:D
simple is the best !
-
sorry, but I think that you could do a better sanding job on it.
I think, that it would be even better results while dyeing it.
-
he also charges 100€ per machine-hour and this would need two,
and the saw would be ready for sharpening after that so he would have to charge me for that too,
but he had pity and would only charge half.
I offered him half of the log for another price break but he doesn't even want it, because it's to much trouble.
classic bullshit !
friendly prices, but they steal you like a fool !
give me a measurements, and I'll see what and how to process that !
alles gute !
-
but i maybe will also sell to people to will need/want a radius,
how thick should i let him cut it?
me, me, me, me....
6 x 75 x 700 mm would be fine for anything
(el. or acoustic guitar)
-
thanks...im gonna go nice and slow...see if i can save some money.
5$ is not big money, and you shouldn't spare on that !
:D
I read your last topic, and can you tell where is your location ?
I bet that someone is willing to help. (including me)

so, this guitar is in progress !
neck is made of maple + rosewood (24 frets, 25.5") with PRS headstock+ 4mm abalone inlays
body is alder + flame/quilted maple top.
many will ask why not jackson or pensa headstock... honestly.... i don't like them. and i think this is pretty good combination.
it will have Schaller parts (M6 & wrap around).
body is thick 4,5 cm + 1 cm maple. 0,5 cm from top wood will go on mild ( ) arch top. and other 0,5 cm will be natural binding.
about the paint on it... i am waiting for some idea (from you)...
and i want to know which pickups would you put on it (passive- must be) for 80' thrash ?!
greetings to all people from HR and BiH !

i work barefoot :/
on these hot days I work barefoot too. easiest way for cleaning
and, I love prs style, so this will be a nice one.

I ja mislim
balkan od tokija do milavokija
vozdra, Zac
sorry for spam !

when building a whole guitar, I am starting from a neck.
and I build him on measurement, and after that i can build almost perfect neck pocket.
-
I wish you a luck.
you will need it for the sanding. I used once a pine for body, and never again. it's so soft. and after sanding you have waves on body.
at least I had them. man, I hate pine.
alder is the best
-
nice, nice...
can't wait for finished result !
-
I would say...
option 3 for necks... it looks nice
and, pickup configuration
HH for the fixed, and HSS for floyd
-
I like #1 and #4.
I like them too.
this will be a nice guitar !
and, I have question.
where can i find TOM bridge for 7 (or 8) strings ?!
(besides ebay .....)
