    ....

those are probably my top influences... all great musicians first, guitarists second. theres a lot of awesome guitarists out there that have no idea how to make melody and harmony speak

  2. hats off to you sir for having the patience of job... i for one, would have made sure it knew what concrete tasted like as soon as it popped lol

i think in the end it adds character to it. sometimes the imperfections are what make it unique - what would music sound like if an amp didnt fall out of a trunk 60 years ago? who knows, you could end up with a real wicked raspy blues guitar.

  3. always baffles me when artists of sorts have horrible, discusting websites.

I second the lathe option... a good Jet mini lathe and a pile of pen kits can make you a bunch of extra money out of your scrap wood. I highly recommend anyone wanting to get into turning pens or similar items to check out the DVD "Turning Pens with Kip & Rex". it's by far the best inspirational instruction i've seen. scrap wood is fun, lots of cool things to do with it... art/sculpture pieces or make knife holders, business card stands, puzzle boxes (scroll saw), picture frames (router table), etc. just look through some of the project books at home depot and you're bound to find something that will spark your interest.

heck if you get real bored... http://www.ferrariownersclub.co.uk/happeni...er/wood_f50.asp

  4. A git of a job and a chance of real disaster if you've never done any inlaying.

Suggestion: Get some scrap and have a few attempts at trying to inlay what you want to do.

As a rule inlaying into a built neck will almost always call for the frets to be pulled out so something else to consider if you've never done that before either.

Ah, ok understood. I will hold off till i build a neck from scratch. Thanks for the advice

  5. I've been searching around for some options... i want to replace the cheapo fret dots on my strats rosewood fretboard with some wood inlay. Nothing super fancy but something stylized. I dont however want to go and refret the board. I'm wondering if the difficultly would be too high for a first attempt at inlay with an already finished neck.

    suggestions? examples?

    Thanks,

    -Dana

  6. Also, quick question. This is my friend's horribly mutilated (and now disassembled) MIM Strat. What on earth are those holes to the right of the middle and neck pickups? I've seen them on the American Strats, even the American Jazz Basses, too. Surely something as small as that can't serve as a kind of resonance chamber or something, right?

the general consensus is that they are CNC registration marks for their template cutting. it indicates to the machine which body style the blank is for.
