  1. zyonsdream - I like the idea of the hollow bass side. I might have to do that.

Here are some pictures of the template...minus the neck tenon and the headstock i will be using.

I plan on seeing the maple top pretty soon in the mail and i will be buying a long anticipated 14" bandsaw on Friday so i can start working on putting this thing together.

  2. The body perhaps looks a little to large in comparison to the scale length, which may go some way as to explaining the top horn not locating over 12th (rule of thumb for balance in most cases) and the fret access being impaired. The bottom horn looks a bit heavy in comparison to the sleekness of the top one. I would say, reduce the body approx. 80-90% although on second thoughts the way the neck looks thin might be making the body look overly large.

Yeah, i'd say the body is slightly too large in relation to the neck.

Yeah. I noticed the oversized body and I think its because I took the neck from a cad file for a different guitar. I traced the body from a picture of the body...so I know they dont quite match up. I printed the template out and did some adjustments. I'll post some pictures of the template later.

  3. I'm starting my guitar for my Senior Project. I based my design from this topic: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=36476

    Details:

    -2 piece Alder body

-Long tenon set Birdseye maple neck

-Probably a deep red died 1/4" Quilted Maple top......depending on what it looks like when i get it in the mail.

-Ebony Acoustic StewMac Bridge.....I want to put a Piezo Acoustic Bridge Pickup in it as well as a Humbucker and a Fast Track 2 at the neck/middle

What I can't decide on is the fretboard....I want a 28 fret board but i'm stuck on what to make it out of....it makes sence to do an ebony board to match the bridge, but could i get away with a different wood like cocobolo or something with it looking good?

Here is a ROUGH AutoCad mock up with just a black bridge and black fretboard, representing ebony.

  5. I have come to the point where I am ready to buy a bandsaw. I was looking at the cheap Ryobi 9in. bandsaw but I thought this rigid might be better in the long-run.

    Ridgid

If anyone has had any experience with this or has opinions on other saws for around the same price I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks

  6. Alright! Here's (most of) the wood being used on this project. Absent is the rosewood for the fingerboard and headstock. Left to right:

    - quilted maple for the sides

    - 2x 3mm bloodwood laminates for the neck

    - quartersawn rock maple for central neck laminate

    - flame maple for the neck

    - burl maple for the top

    - burl maple for the back

(outlines for reference...am adjusting the positions so the inclusions don't run over the edge binding)

Where did you get your wood?

  7. Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has a schematic for the following wiring that I'd like to do:

    2 humbucker

    2 volume

    1 tone

super 5 way switch (bridge humbucker, outer coils parallel, both humbuckers, inner coils parallel, neck humbucker)

The problem is I can find schematics for one volume control, not two. Is this even possible? Thanks in advance.

    Something like this?

this site has a lot of schematics and has helped me a bunch.....look around a little

  8. Hello PJ, first post here so do be nice and not so overly technical. :D

I finished school in May (freedom for the next 2.5 months before entering Uni of Toronto to study physics ^^) and so my parents said they could potentially get me a new guitar. So far I had a Ibanez GRG170DX. At first I welcomed the idea, since an alpine white Fender Standard Stratocaster was pretty much my dream guitar. On a second thought, however, I thought I'd rather not have my parents spend 1300 euros on a new guitar, so instead I decided to upgrade my existing guitar with own money. Fist thing I want to do is a paint job, which is not done yet. Second thing I wanted to do is to change the humbuckers. (In the long run a Strat would be better I guess, but c'mon - a custom guitar is custom, and the customeness, especially if done by yourself, outweighs everything :D)

I've did some research and stopped on a SH6 Duncan Distortion for the bridge humbucker and a DiMarzio Evolution Neck DP158 for the neck pickup.

Thus my first question: is it perfectly normal to mix together humbuckers of different companies? I googled that and apparently the answer is yes. But I'd thought I would ask it in person, and besides maybe someone has exactly that set up ^^.

The second question is the following. I don't know if any of you have experience with GRGs, but they have a 5-way-switch, one Volume, and one Tone control knob. The uppermost position activated the neck humbucker, one below activates the coil closer to the bridge of the neck 'bucker and the middle pickup, middle position activated only the middle pickup, and vice versa for the last two positions. I scanned in a diagram from the manual:

    switch.jpg

Is there a diagram somewhere that shows how to connect all the 'buckers and pickups properly? (sounds like some "is there a tutorial to make life better" question, but you never know ^^)

    Thanks in advance.

    This has

    2 humbuckers

    1 volume

    1 tone

5 way switch (coil splitting the humbuckers)

but middle position is both humbuckers. Do you have a HSH pickup layout?
