Several swirls in oil, but no oil-based clear - aside from those that are actually oils (not meant to sound like smart "a"). On that topic though, there are numerous posts throughout the forum.

Or at least some diluted oxalic acid - almost seems like something in the wood reacted with the metal - or something was on the blade itself that reacted.

and now you know the point in time at which I started highly considering filling in everything with epoxy.... I had outlined the bridge and everything, and just went on a carving frenzy, paying more attention to the lines I had drawn for the knots than anything else..

So.... obviously.... it's been a while - we all know the reasons, work, family, life... anyway here the first new shots of that chunk of cherry. I'm calling it the Celticaster. I'm sure opinions will vary wildly here, but it's an experiment. It's wet w/ Mineral Spirits in the pics. I guess if nothing else - it's a unique twist on doing a 'carve top'

A bit of clean up to sharpening some of the curves and then it's time to decide if I should fill the low spots with a lightly colored epoxy.... or just leave it all clear.

Interesting.... I guess I've kept doing it out of habit (and should probably check for updates occasionally). Never had a problem with KTM-9 though.

Also - not sure which water-based you used, but KTM-9 in particular is picky about wiping down the area to be sprayed with denatured alcohol to ensure proper "melting" of the layers.

This whole thing is rather ridiculous - I read that NAMM has gotten involved now. There's not enough problems in this country - let's pick on guitar makers for some total misinterpretation of law designed to protect birds.

This is a rather striking piece of 5/4 cherry that I'd like to make into a guitar... but am stuck on what shape. Another Strat? Tele? RG? Thoughts or opinions appreciated.

I like it - but then I'm working on a similar project at the moment.... not nearly as beautiful, but.... a rather butterscotch flavored tele.

Just a quick note on the mod podge. My wife uses it for several things and I tried it on my first fabric finish. The gloss level has a dramatic difference in dry time with. I think I still have some test fabric around here that's gooey with the gloss finish. Used the matte with good results, but still not as good as epoxy

There are 2 ways to do it - oil paint + water, or water-based paint on water that's mixed with a lot of supplements to make it almost gelatin-like. I prefer the oil on water because it's quite efficient.

You could do it using regular oil paint and make a swirl pattern on top of a water bath. Then, when you dip the body (properly waxed and or taped of course) it will pick up the paint as you pass it through making a swirl pattern. Pretty easy, but takes a little practice.

Did a bunch of testing, swapping cables, amps, guitars, etc. to try and establish some pattern to it. Then the obvious hit me - the loop was set up with the wah in front because I was using the amp's distortion and had never engaged any of the distortion pedals during that setup. Once I moved the wah to the END of the loop - worked as expected. Sometimes, I need to just have a cup of coffee and think

only when it's engaged does it happen. I'll be going back through the chain this morning and attempting to see if something it throwing it off..... there are 2 pedals that I can guarantee have true bypass in them - cause I put it there The rest are Boss, so I'll double-double check.

I have a standard Dunlop Crybaby pedal at the front of my effects loop - where it's 'supposed' to be

Recently added a delay pedal at the end of the loop, but that should cause any issues - esp. since it's true bypass. Anyway, all was going great until I hit the wah and all of the sudden the sound got a LOT of treble from out of nowhere ??? Never had this happen with it before - any ideas on things to start checking?

Curved/flat nut refers to the underside of the nut, not the top.
